when I visited penn the girl I stayed with was an Arabic target person and she said it was just a "talk about _______ subject" thing. But I think she was actually personally interviewed by one of the admissions people who is an arabic professor.

I really reccomend not worrying about the speaking test, I got really really nervous during my test and my test sounded something like this:

"I we did came to Washington to stare at Uncle in time of hotness"

mmhmm Catch is right. I didn't get a test and I was deferred :-D

yeah i think im screwed about the arabic proficiency test b/c ive known how to speak the language forever but im just now learning to read and write (which is really hard) so i dont really know what to do, its not like we can take arabic at school- ive taken spanish forever at school but i dont know what to expect from this proficiency test.

Yea. The test is pretty easy and basic. It has a fifteen minute speaking session where there will be five prompts. As long as you show "proficiency"...they don't expect the kids to be fluent.

catch- what language was your test for

Chinese

There's also a multiple choice section and a short essay. But really really easy stuff...the basics. :) BEST OF LUCK!

anyone get a chinese test yet?
for those of you who have gotten your letter already, what state are you from?

Maryland...

i got mine in atlanta ga
btw how many of us are there

DisplacedNewYorker - Charlotte, NC
GGGGunit - Atlanta, GA (where I was last weekend... great city)
alita - Maryland

anyone else?

what language did everyone pick?

Smiliekat, the language tests go out all the same time, regardless of the language. Where are you? Because I am here in AZ, and I remember that I got the letter like two days after the East Coast kids got them.

i live close to you. thanks.

Ill improve upon DNY's list...

DisplacedNewYorker - Charlotte, NC-German
GGGGunit - Atlanta, GA-Arabic (thats exciting...there were only 2 arabics last year)
alita - Maryland (French..at least for admissions)

....now I'm gonna be so anxious for the 31st..and its right at my birthday and spring break too!

Umm. I should clarify something, somebody just sent me a PM telling me that the tests are not a guaranteed sign of acceptance, it is rather an actual test that the Huntsman people are trying to give you to test for proficiency....so...I guess I, along with a few others on this board, have been kinda misinformed to some degree. Also, if you do not receive a test, it either means that you are rejected OR that they have enough confidence in your lang. skillz to let you skip the test. I have no idea who sent the PM to me...odd...

thats unfortunate. i wonder who sent you that message

yeah I checked the back boards from last year and their was one girl who got in that did not take the test (ashleycrombie). Everyone else that got in had taken the test, so I guess it can go either way. But even if what that person has said is right catch, I guess it is still a sign if you get it that they are at least considering you, that youre not flat out rejected...would'nt it be a waste to send it to people when you know for sure youre going to reject them???

I guess well find out for sure on the 31st...like everyone else....oh well.

alita how are you doing french for admissions then arabic? because ive been taking spanish forever but im pretty weak at arabic- but thats where i wanted to go within huntsman.. anways so there are only 3 of us thats pretty strange

I talked w/ Inge about it when Ifirst started consideringthe program...ill post the long version later im in class now
