so I applied ED to the huntsman program and I chose Russian as my language. I noted that I am a native speaker, but since there aren't any Russian proficiency tests, I read online that Penn is supposed to administer one to me. It's Dec. 4th and I haven't gotten any news about it. I emailed one of the assistant directors at Huntsman and she told me that they'll notify me if they see the need to test me in the language. This sounds very suspect to me.

has anybody else that applied to huntsman that is in a similar position already been administered their language test?

Hi, i also applied, and my targeted language is mandarin, and i m also a native speaker. I didn't take the mandarin SAT2, but huntsman ppl said it was fine, and i could just put native speaker on the apps.i dunno if i answerd ur question though..

There are proficiency tests at the beginning of the year. Common languages, eg French, Spanish- are online (available all year), and then there is another test to take (like an SAT II) depending upon your score. The less common languages have a written test administered at specific times right before school starts. I don't think they would waste time administering these tests unless they knew you were admitted.

My D applied to Huntsman RD and also chose Russian as her target language. She is definitely not a native speaker. Proficiency tests were sent to HS counselor, and they were administered to her during school hours. The tests were a minimum of 4 parts, at least 3 were written (sorry I can't remember exactly how many parts) The test consisted of question and answer, essay, and maybe a multiple choice - all written in Russian, requiring written responses in Russian. There was also a speaking portion, where she read a written question and responded orally, this was taped and sent back to the program, along with her written responses. The test were given either in late February or early March.
She was accepted and attended Huntsman Days in early April. A large portion of the US kids that were accepted were in attendance. There were a lot of kids with Chinese as their target language, but many other languages as well. A few with Russian, including one native Russian boy, with a different target language.
It could be possible that because you are a native speaker they may not require testing, or they still may send materials to your school counselor.

georgiamom, did the school give your daughter any heads-up about the test, any kind of week-in-advance warning or anything? I got in contact with a friend of mine, he's a soph in Huntsman and he went to the same school as I'm in and he's also targeting Russian. He told me they gave him the test about a week before ED decisions came out, so it was really last minute stuff. Was your daughter's experience similar? Thank you very much!

Hi Georgiamom, i am also a Huntsman applicant from Vancouver, Canada. Do you mind putting up some stats of ur D so that i can get an idea of where I am standing?thanks

I can't remember exact dates, but I know she was informed that the test would be sent to the school and administered by the counselors. I think maybe a week's notice? I'm pretty sure the time period for the testing was late Feb or early March. I do remember that acceptances were e-mailed on 3/29.
