Hurricane in the south

Just wanted to shout out a warning to anyone planning to visit southern schools in the coming week. We are in a Hurricane Alert.

Now, it is not predicted to be a "bad one", but let me warn you that there are many alarmists down here on the Gulf Coast, and there is likely to be more traffic than you would normally expect.

Just keep your ears open. You may check out a local TV website, like WWL-NO.

Even if there is no evacuation ordered, which pray God, there won't be, because there goes the tuition money again, there will be traffic and hotels will be booked.

On the subject of hotels, if you do not have a reservation, MAKE ONE NOW! Many Gulf Coasters make reservations out of an abundance of caution, then cancel them when the storm misses us.

Don't count on driving in to visit a school and find you can't get a room.

Main points of evacuation for Gulf Coast residents are:

Baton Rouge, Houston, Birmingham, Memphis, Atlanta, Arkansas.

If you're visiting colleges in these areas this week, make your hotel reservations now.

Good luck and say a prayer for us down here!

another good place to keep track is al.com and click on weather then on hurricane.

my son just called me, “might” get sent home from mobile… his reaction was, well that would be good i need my laundry done! my reaction…great then you could work on essays
2 different worlds!!!

Hope your son in Mobile is safe. Looks like it’s going to hit between Pascagoula and Mobile.

me too, they aren’t closing the school and sending them home, but school does a great job so they must have assessed everything and feel its safe. plus if they only closed for one day, he would spend 12 hours on the road coming home and going back.
