Would anyone happen to know if it's worth doing any sort of hurricane preparedness for this storm, particularly if the NHC feels confident that it'll strike the DC area? I remember when Hurricane Isabel came in 2003 that my family didn't really do anything besides stock up on some dry ice and food, but just wanted to get other posters' opinions.

what about move ins - looks like arrival (if it arrives) is Sat-Sun which are the main move in days. I think I may e-mail Res life to see what contingency plans, if any they have

The letter to students yesterday suggestion to bring tarps and plastic bags seemed to miss the point that the weather system is a hurricane and the part where many out of state families from the NE will need to drive down on sat and sun in the Hurricane to the move in. Now maybe it ends up going out to sea but i thought a follow up was necessary. I appreciated this email from Res Life this am and thought other parents might as well. -

"Thank you for contacting the Resident Life Assignments Office.

The Department of Resident Life is aware of the impending weather to our region and the impact to our scheduled move-in. This morning, the senior staff is convening to make a determination about changes to the move-in schedule. Once that decision is made, Resident Life will communicate it to all residents as soon as possible via email and on our website.

We appreciate your patience while we finalize plans to accommodate our students in the best way possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us."

Based on the current paths and times, it won’t hit the MD/DC area until Sunday morning; so unless you’re planning on moving in on Sunday, it probably won’t be that big of an issue.

If moving in isn’t a hassle enough…Good luck everyone!

Ugh now we have to wait til Monday morning rather than Sunday to drive down from NY…

thank god I took most of my stuff to the house earlier this week. moving in tomorrow. Guess I’ll buy a few gallons of water when I do the big grocery shopping spree.
