Hypothetical chances

If a Hispanic legacy were to apply to Northwestern, what would be his chances?

Can’t really tell you your chances without more info. Grades, ACT/SAT, Extracarriculars, and essays I would say are the main factors that would help determine your chances. Legacy is helpful only in ED, and any sort of minority status boost is really hard to determine (if it even exists), and doesn’t mean much unless you’re in the correct stats range for the school.

I’m only a Junior right now, but I believe I’ll score 2200+ on the SAT, and will have taken 9 AP Classes by the end of Senior Year. I have a GPA of around 3.8.

Those stats are in range of NU so you should have a decent shot. Taking challenging classes like APs is really good too. If you compliment that with good second semester junior grades, quality Extracurricular activities, and strong essays and you’ll have a strong shot. You also might want to start considering now if you want to apply Early Decision or not if NUs your top choice school, especially if your a legacy because that factor is only really considered in ED, and the competition to get accepted is SOOOO much lighter in this round (like 4,000 applicants compared to 30,000 applicants for half of 2,000 slots). This year’s RD for example looks like it’s going to have acceptance rates far below 10%, with lots of good applicants being rejected so it’s definitely something to consider in comparison to like 10-20 years ago when both admission rounds weren’t as compeditive. Good luck!
