hypothetical early round

Would I be able to apply to Columbia (ED), UChic, MIT, and CIT, all at the same time in the early round? This is just hypothetical, but I'm interested to see if this will work. Am I breaking any of the admissions rules for each particular school? I know many EA schools don't allow you to apply to ED schools in the early round. Would that apply to these 3, or would I be safe?

You can't apply ED and EA at the same time.

columbia allows it...it would work unless Uchic, MIT, or CIT don't allow, which is what i'm trying to find out

murkywater is wrong. you can apply ED to one school and EA to as many as you like, as long as NONE of them have Single Choice Early Action. Look on their admissions sites to see what (if any) restrictions they have.

um, i looked on these 3. They don't prohibit it or anything, so I'm assuming it'll be fine? Anyone wiht past experience know wthether these EA schools are able to be applied to with an ED school? Caltech/MIT websites are a bit vague.

Sorry, I thought you meant ED several places. Wow, that sounded silly.

Stanford's SCEA for example, would not let you apply elsewhere early.

My friend did that (only UChicago and Columbia). The college might sense your lack of commitment. He was deferred from both places. And ultimately rejected from Columbia.

I understand that people want to get apps out of the way. But with the high caliber of ED pools, you may just end up getting deferred, so it doesn't make life easier.

on college application do we need to list the names of schools we applied with early action program if for say, I applied to more than one school?

Thanks

How do they verify if you do more than one school? I don't think they have a network of information to determine who breaks the ED rule.

To the OP -- what if you ended up getting into Columbia ED? The other applications would be rather a waste, and especially if you got into one of them, you'd be kicking yourself over not having any room for choice.

(Of course, this is assuming that Columbia isn't your straight first choice -- judging by the number of schools you want to apply to early, it's a safe guess!)

If I got into columbia, i'd just be ecstatic and rescind all the other apps. The other apps (2-3) are simply backups in case I dont get in, which is obviously a possiblity

ses--it doesn't make sense that Columbia would regard an ED application as waffling.

If you know that an ED school is your top choice, applying to other places EA (assuming the ED school allows it), is a perfectly acceptable way of moving the notification process earlier. If a student is rejected or defered from Columbia, but in at MIT, the student knows this in December and can then either file no additional applications or select several other places, knowing that there is one acceptance in his pocket that will be a great place to go. It is simply a way of layering the process, just as students do everyday when they apply to their in-state "safety" school and then follow this up with some places that have more challenging acceptance rates.

alright thanks nimby. So, colleges won't really able to know if you apply to other schools early as well, or will they ask?
