I am applying to Chicago EA, MIT EA, and Columbia ED. Will Chicago see that I've applied to MIT EA, and more importantly, and ED school as well? Will this hurt my chances at chicago? I will probably just apply to CU if applying to MIT and Chicago will jeapordize my chances at all 3, but I hope that's not the case. It's nice to have backups in the early round.

I'm pretty sure you can do that. Columbia doesn't mind, as long as you are committed to go there if they accept you, Chicago doesn't mind, and I don't think MIT does, either. A few schools do care -- I think Brown doesn't want you to apply EA anywhere if you are applying ED there, and Georgetown won't let you apply EA if you have an ED application in anywhere.

I think it's really common for core curriculum fans to do the Columbia ED/Chicago EA pair; at least I've known 5 or 6 kids over the past few years.

Make sure to withdraw your application from us when you hear from an ED school. This is not to "free up more spaces," but because there is nothing like a defer or deny letter to dampen your spirits after you've been admitted to your ED school.
