Hypothetical situation - plz consider

Ok consider this a hypothetical situation:
If you have crappy SAT I scores yet everything else on your application is practically perfect (valedictorian, nationally and internationally recognized EC's, plenty of leadership, athletics, community service ,and a lot of other stuff that show persistence and dedication). Even your Sat II scores are really high. Is there any possibility that this really crappy SAT 1 score could be overlooked when applying to top schools (Yale, gtown, Chicago etc..)? Or could this one number basically ruin one's chances of attending the top schools that one has been wanting to go to for soo long? Do you guys know of any such cases where students are really smart and have a great application but their SAT's are just terrible yet they still get into great schools? (non-minority and non-recruits)
Thanks

look i think you have a chance despite your low SATs...is english your second language? perhaps they will consider that, plus you have the international distinctions. My teacher always likes to emphasise that it's the 'whole package'. it's possible that they will overlook your low SATs, but take the Nov SAT anyway and if it's not good, you still on improve in the Dec and Jan ones for RD

GOOD LUCK!:)

Just how low is the score? There are such cases, but they are few arnd far between. In the past it happened more, but now, because of US News, schools publish every stat and their rankings go down if they are letting in too many kids under certain numbers like % under 600 on math. The low percentage of those they let in below certain numbers are recruited athletes, urms, legacies of those who gave big money children of the rich and famous and prodigies. Someone not in those categories will not likely have below average anything for top schools.

Now we weigh in that you're an international. Top schools have a small quota for internationals and get an incredible number of applicants, particularly from Asia. If you come from a small Eastern Europe country with political unrest and deep poverty or a small African village, you may get a break. If you're from a country where many apply to US schools and their is a good educational system, your numbers will have to be better than those of Americans they accept. And if you need any financial aid, the bar goes way higher.

I go to school with a huge number of internationals. Many of them can't think past HYP because those are the best known schools in their countries. There are many, many great schools, look outside of the box.

To get the best answers, you need to state what your SAT scores are including the breakdown of your SAT I scores, not just the total score.

well my situation is kind of different... here it is if you are interested in looking:

Im not only applying to the top schools, I have a satisfactory list of other schools as well. More than one safety (only prob. is I don't especially LOVE any of them) - that's not really what im worried about now tho.

I would have liked to take the SAT's again, but that seems impossible at the moment. The scores I got r: 620CR, 600M, 600W
and My SAT II's are : Spanish:790 Bio m:760 Lit:780
the thing that confuses me is that Lit was harder than CR but I did so much better on it...maybe they'll consider that?
well thanks for your help
