Hypothetical situation that won't happen

Okay deferred kids.

Say you really like Yale (as I do). And for some crazy reason, you get into Yale and Princeton in April. Where would you go? If you applied ED, most likely you like Princeton better (as I do). But would you feel like a "lesser" acceptance being deferred/accepted? Where would you go?

Years ago I faced exactly that decision. I was deferred at Princeton and later accepted. So I had to choose between Yale, Princeton and Stanford. I actually flipped a coin between P'ton and Stanford. For whatever reason (okay, it was New Haven) Yale wasn't even in the running.

Princeton won the toss, and I'm really glad. I had an amazingly great time a Princeton. I never really gave the deferral a second thought.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'd go to Princeton too. For some reason I like the idea of "just" getting in...like Princeton doesn't really want me that much but is willing to take a chance on me...it kinda turns me on! So close yet so far away. I have to say the Dartmouth likely letter is a turn-off. I want to be unwanted.

"I want to be unwanted."

There's probably a support group somewhere out there for you... :)

I'm seriously SO weird. haha

lol I'll take your Dartmouth likely if you don't want it... :p

You're not dating the admissions officer who read your application for 20 minutes at 2 o'clock in the morning. You're going to school where they are employed. Base your decision on what school is best for you, not how much someone you will never meet is pining over you.

Hah cookiemom, it's okay though cause Princeton is my best school :)

I'd go to Princeton, no question. If it was your first choice then, it should be your first choice now. If they accept me on the rebound, I will send in my deposit info before I even open any of my other letters.

PS: How could you feel that being accepted and deferred was any less prestigious, or that they didn't want you? That's ridiculous. Are you aware that they may have wanted you early, but had to admit some football player in your place? I'd be pretty happy to get in after being deferred, especially this year, which will probably be the most competitive in Princeton's history.

Truthfully, I'd go to Yale.
I mean, I like both schools A LOT and for a while Princeton was the clear first choice, but I don't know if it's because I convinced myself I liked it most or I actually liked it. I think I'd have to do serious overnights and decide.

Even more of a turn-off than being deferred/later accepted (not really a turn-off to me at all), would be the turnoff of New Haven. Princeton even off the waitlist. :)

If I were deferred by Princeton and then accepted later, I would think twice about going there.

But thats not the case. I was deferred EA by Harvard and if in the unlikely event that both Yale and Harvard accept me, then theres no doubt I'll go to Yale, if only because I'll take vindictive pleasure in knowing that I havent contributed to the Big H's obscenely high yield rate :D

Yes I'm a vengeful person...but only when it comes to Harvard :)

encomium.."I want to be unwanted."

that made me laugh..heheh..

whoo gracey thats the way to be!

I know exactly what you mean. I want to go to the best school that I can get into.. one that will just baaarely take me, as opposed to one that is already salivating and sending me recruitment info.
