I stumbled across this board from a Google search about NYU transfer admissions, so I figured this would be an appropriate place for my queries pertaining to transfer applications.

Currently, I'm a sophomore at Georgia State University with a 3.86 GPA, majoring in political science with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in history (formerly a journalism major.) I was planning on sending in an application to NYU next year for the fall 2010 semester (at the time of submitting my application, I should have well over 60 credits.)

However, although I currently have a decent college gpa, I didn't fair so well in high school and I graduated with a 3.05 GPA and a score of 1700 on the SATs.

So here are my stats:

3.86 college GPA (This will most likely rise after this semester since I'll most likely finish up in May with a 3.93 for this period of grades)
A year of dj experience on Georgia State's radio station WRAS-Atlanta (the world's largest college radio station; this also coincided with my former major)
By the time of submitting my application, I'll also have a year of managerial experience at my job, which I have been working at since August of last year
Member of Georgia State's law school club
3.05 college gpa
1700 combined SATs
over 100 hours of community service
I've also made the dean's list every semester since I've been in college and the president's list once.

I know I could easily get into UGA, but I'm trying to strive higher.

Also, I've read on this board that after you've already received 30 credits, SAT scores are no longer reviewed with your application. Is this true? And if so, is it the same for high school grades?

well, you dont even have to send in your SATs i think… not if youve done over 30 credits…
i dont know how much theyll look at your HS gpa, but probably not too much, and actually i think it will be good that you have an upwards trend(very upwards )! this shows that you are not taking school seriously which is awesome
i think your EC’s are fine, and you have a great shot at getting in:)

however!! why dont you apply for spring transfer?? i think it is easier because most people transfer for fall… spring 2010s deadline will probably be in november, so you have a lot of time just a tip :)

^^^Thanks for the reply and advice. I guess it would behoove me to apply for spring 2010 since it’s far less competitive. I’ll definitely consider doing that.

Also, I didn’t mention that I’m an African-American male. I read that only about 4% of nyu’s student body population is black, so would that also help my chances since colleges often try to add more diversity.

And the 3.05 in the first post was referring to my high school gpa, not college (I just realized I made that mistake.) My college gpa, once again, is a 3.86.

Admittance is my primary concern, but if the financial aid package is sub-par (which I’ve heard that it has been for many) I have other options to weigh as well.

hey East89…i was just looking through the thread and see you attend GSU too! i go there as well, but am trying to transfer out to NYU - CAS. What college are you in?
