^^Roll the dice. Lacrosse state champion + valedictorian + competitive SATs = chances are good anywhere. I'd say you are in at any Ivy plus Stanford if you are good enough to be on their lacrosse team.

Your extracurriculars are great and your SAT scores are in HYPS range, but with kids taking classes such as Calculus 3, organic chemistry, and differential equations, it is still a big gamble.

Harvard - Reach
Yale - Big Reach
Princeton - Big Reach
Stanford - Big Reach
Columbia - Big Reach
Dartmouth - Big Reach
Boston University - Safety
George Washington - Safety
Georgetown - Match
NYU - Low Match/Safety

^why would H be just "reach" and the other ivies be "big reach." They're all reaches IMO. His numbers are good, except for the AP scores. Honestly, what happened there?

Your ECs are marginal for HYP. Probably sufficient for the rest of the ivies, though. Good luck brocakes. You've got a 50/50 shot at the Ivies...at least one of them.g

Harvard is a mere reach because he's a double legacy. Both of his parents went there. All the rest of the Ivies he's listed and Stanford are big reaches because 1.) None of them accepted more than 12% of their applicants last year, except for Dartmouth, which accepted 16% and 2.) His SATs and ACT scores are merely average for an Ivy/Stanford applicant, and thousands of valedictorians and salutatorians apply to these schools, many with better SATs and more impressive ECs. This is not to say he absolutely, positively won't get into one HYPS or Dartmouth, but it's a real long shot any way you cut it.

Harvard (Both parents were undergrad here)- 25%
Yale- 10%
Princeton- 10%
Stanford- 10%
Columbia- 35%
Dartmouth- 35%
Boston University- In
George Washington- In
Georgetown- In
NYU- In

if you are good enough to be on school lacrosse team, it will increase your chance greatly. Good Luck to you.

I'll second mmm168's predictions although the parent thing for harvard at 25% is a little too high. Your AP scores were a little low. SAT II scores okay and SAT okay. Courses did not seem super tough. [They may be the hardest courses that the school offers so I cannot speak objectively on that subject]. I hope your parents were active with helping Harvard admissions such as sitting on alumni committees, doing interviews, donating, and job placing. Thats really when the legacy matters. However, best of luck applying there. Great sports EC by the way. If you get recruited for lacross, then everything changes of course.

well i fell you stand excellent chances but so does almost everyone else who applies to harvard......the fact that ppl apply to harvard reflects their strenghts so hope for the best

I fail to understand how you people give 25%-35% chance, when the acceptance rate is 9-12% ? He has a 9-12% chance, just like every other ivy league applicant.

I don't think you're quite understanding how probability comes into play in this case.

If the adcoms put very applicant's name on a piece of paper, put them all in a hat and drew names until the class was filled, then yes, he would have a 9-12% chance.

Thankfully, that is not how the admission process works. Each application is assessed holistically, and each acceptance is the result of an applicant being chosen for their merits. Therefore, those who have more traits that adcoms find desirable have a higher chance of being chosen. Some people who apply will have lower chances than 9-12%, and some will be higher.
