Long story short, I HATE the school I’m at and I need out. I go to a private school in Texas and want to transfer to UT Austin, but even if you qualify, you might not get in because so many people want to go. I’m paying, taking out loans, for all my schooling because my parents are helping with day to day things instead which is what I asked for so I don’t complain about that. That being said, I’d like to not be paying $70,000 for ONE YEAR at this school once I graduate (yes, $70,000 I know that is insane I didn’t realize it was going to be that).
If anyone could leave suggestions as to what my best bet is with transferring because my counselor is helping me but not that much, that would be great. Also, recommendations for backup schools if I can’t get into UT Austin would be great too. I’d like to stay in Texas and I’m a biology (pre dental) major. I want the big school experience for sure and regret coming to the school I’m at so much.
There’s way more to why I hate the school but I’m not going to type a long rant about it. It sucks and makes me depressed being there (not homesick because I am close enough to home).
There are several big schools in Texas in addition to the University of Texas at Austin. Consider Texas A&M, Texas Tech, & the University of Houston.
Did you graduate from HS in Texas, and your parents still live there now? And who is loaning you $70K for this year? You might want to leave at the semester break and take a semester off for go to a CC. Get the best grades possible this semester to give yourself options.
Texas Tech would be my suggestion
If you and your parents are borrowing $70,000 each year, the time to leave your current college is at the end of the first semester (quarter if you are on a quarter system). Take a semester off while you apply for transfer, or go to community college if it is cheap enough and convenient enough.
How you and your parents got into a fix where you are can say that you had no idea what your costs would be like doesn’t speak very well for your attention to detail. Sit down with your parents and come up with a budget that you can work within before you head off to college again.
