Absolutely. My son speaks little French and is doing an internship right now for a FinTech company based in Montreal.
Hi there - I haven’t received my housing forms yet. Where did you see them?
Hey! You can find them on your minerva in the Applicant Menu. There’s a tab called “Student Housing Status”.
So basically I was rejected from the arts program, my grades were well above the minimum, and I showed alumni and students my stats and they agreed my chance was pretty solid. I was “Reviewed - Decision Pending” from the Faculty of Agric Environ Sc program at the Mac Donald campus. I am praying to get in because McGill is my first choice, anyway, I would love to hear any feedback about the mac campus and the Faculty of Agric Environ Sc. If I did potentially get in would it be possible for me to transfer into the arts program? If I am in the Faculty of Agric Environ Sc where would I live, could I take classes on the regular campus? Any feedback would be beyond appreciated.
Hello/ Bonjour,
How easy and how quickly is Canada processing Visa applications for prospective students coming from the US? My son would like to arrive early August to get acclimated and do any required quarantining… will he get the visa in time or are there delays due to Covid??? Many thanks.
It took about 10 days for the CAQ and another 10 days for the study permit to be approved, although they said study permit would take 3 months.
This is good to hear I just did our caq. I looked at the study permit and it mentioned once accepted you had to send them your actual passport is that the case? Also do you mind me asking which financial documents you sent for study permit for proof of support? Thanks.
I didn’t see anything about sending actual passport. The letter says that when she arrives in Canada the border agent will review all the documents-which includes the passport-and issue the actual study permit then.
For financial documents, we sent three or four months worth of one bank account’s statements. (The same statements we sent in for the CAQ.)
Thank you-
I believe when you arrive at the border they will attach the CAQ to your passport. (Of course, we did this driving because we are just a few hours from the border.) If you haven’t already, join the McGill Parents and McGill International Parents Facebook groups. People will be discussing all of the logistics there.
Thank you SwimmingDad. Do you know if it matters which Border Crossing we enter through if we are headed for Montreal? I would like to drive my son there from Detroit.
In other words, will they let us in at Windsor and then let us drive through to Montreal or would we have to do the initial 3 day quarantine right in Windsor?
I am under the impression that if we cross by land (in a car) that the 3-day government sponsored quarantine doesn’t apply and that we would proceed to the 14-day quarantine location. I hope to drive my daughter too from Chicago area and believe we can only cross to drop off and not get out of the car, returning the same day. I am going to start calling if things don’t change by the end of June to get details on what is allowed or not. McGill ISS told me that some people have luck driving their kids across the border, but they don’t always allow it, so I plan to cross from NY.
Whoa. We are also originating in Chicago. I have to drive my son with his EXTREMELY large instrument (music major) so there is no way i can just “drop him at the border.” He also can’t get around with it so I was hoping to be able to help him set up his apartment…
You might call International Student Services to get an idea of what is allowed for border crossing. I originally thought I could go across with my daughter and quarantine with her, because some of the wording on Canada’s immigration site led me to think so, but it seems it is only allowed for someone who needs “assistance” and could not physically or mentally do it on their own.
Very interesting. That is exactly how i read it as well, that the student could have ONE person accompanying him who would also have to quarantine. This is becoming harder than when my grandparents tried to immigrate to Canada from Hungary in 1956. Well, listen, if they could do it, we can have hope!
Can it be the parent’s bank account, or does it have to be the student’s? I couldn’t get a clear handle on that. (Also, my son will still be a minor when classes start – don’t know if that makes a difference for financial documents).
We used parent bank account and it was fine.
Thank you! Really appreciate that!
