Freshman year:
total of 16 A's (all regular classes)

Sophomore year:
total of 12 A's and 2 B's (two honors classes and two accelerated)

Junior year:
first semester:
3 A's
2 B's
and a C (possible B depending on the final)
(three AP classes, one honors)

PSAT score: 2090
(Taking the SAT in January)
Chinese SAT score: 580

Aside from school, I have a good music extra-curricular list, such as having done professional opera with the San Jose Opera Company, the Regional, All-State and National ACDA Honor Choir Program, plus more than 6 years in choir outside of school (school choir since freshman year). I have been told that these music activities will give me an advantage especially since I plan to minor in music.

But if I end up with the C in AP Spanish class, is it still possible that I can get in UCSD?

Any advice would be largely appreciated. Thanks!

Retake that Chinese SAT subject ASAP. It’s way below the average score, which I think is a 790 or take a different subject test. One c isn’t so bad, as long as its your only one. And, I think here on ask the dean, somebody talked about getting a bad grade in spanish, and she said that its one of the 2 only subjects you could do bad in it and get away with it. The other is AP calc. Other than that, you seem to be alright. I’d say high match.

Hi arrozconleche,
Sorry I meant that I had gotten a 780 on the Chinese SAT, not a 580
and thanks for answering!
Also, do you think there’s a shot for me for UCLA?

Oh, that’s a very big difference. That’s a much better score. UCSD is more of a match now. UCLA is a match as well.

Good luck!

Arrozconleche,
I just got my second semester grades, and I got:
5 A’s
1 B
Since that is a big improvement from first semester, will I have more chances now?
And also, I took the SAT and got a 2050. I plan to take it again.
