I noticed someone suggested NYU stern but with a 3.46... I am not sure you would even be competitive. If you do apply you should make sure to take Managerial accounting as well. It is a prereq. I think you are in at UCLA and borderline for UCB.

I don't really want to go through the application and essay process for another school (NYU) especially if I am going to get into UCLA, and if I don't have much of a chance to get into NYU anyways.

My UC GPA is 3.46 but my overall GPA is about 3.21.

I still think you should apply. You have NOTHING to lose and NYU is a great school.

the avg gpa for accepted transfers majoring in econ was a 3.76 last fall, but the fact that you're tap certified definitely will help. good luck! :)

NYU is HELLA expensive

Doryx, the op could lose their money and time...have you seen anyone with a 3.21-3.46 get into Stern from a community college. I am worried about getting into Stern and I have a much higher gpa with all the prereqs completed...I guess you could also say apply to University of Chicago you have nothing to lose but really it would be pointless. Anyway the op is totally in at UCLA which has a great bus econ program.

Well, NYU is known to accept people who come from extreme background or is international. They don't base their decision solely on GPA unlike some colleges.

If you even have a 3.4, but you have a great story to tell, I'm sure NYU is willing to listen.

Smith, you don't seem to excited about applying, so thats fine. I just think its foolish that you don't give it a try. Nyu is a toss up because it is a private school and their application review process is completely different than UCLA or UCB and even USC.

CK dunton, you said the average GPA for Business Econ transfer students is 3.76 , but that is for all transfer students. California community college students get priority consideration, so I would imagine the average transfer gpa of admits from 2 year schools is lower than that statistic.

I would assume those coming from cc would be at the higher end of the gpa average.

smith, yes, you're right. although ccc students do make up about 84% of the applicants (10,964 ccc apps out of 13,094 total), so i dont imagine that the avg gpa of just those transferring from a ccc would be much lower. i wasnt trying to say you dont have a good shot, i just came across those stats so i figured id post them.

UCLA: Safe match/safety (with TAP)
UCB: Match/slight reach

I didn't know ENGL 1B counts for IGETC, or did you take 40 too?

Anyway, good luck.

pretty sure 1B doesn't

On the IGETC under AREA 1 - ENGLISH COMMUNICATION
(GROUP A) English 1A
(GROUP B) English 40
(GROUP C) Speech 1A, 3, 4, 20

On Assist.org, from CCSF to UCLA for the major of Business Economics it says English 1B or English 40.

I took English 1B last semester and I am taking English 40 this semester.

I probably could have simply taken 40 and not done 1B.

In other words, 1B does not count on IGETC and 40 does. Either one counts towards my major.

i would say UCB is a reach. my gpa was higher for econ, i did not get in. I think your essays would need to be strong.

Unfortunately my essays were really weak.

Your GPA is low but since you are TAP certified, you are likely to get in to UCLA.

For Berkeley, it's slightly a reach for you. Although the specific number's not specified anywhere in the site, expect at least a 3.8 admitted GPA for CAL's econ transfer admits and less than a 23% admit rate. I'm basing this from the fact that the AVERAGE admit rate for all social science majors combined was 23% for last year and Economics is THE MOST impacted major in the Social Science department.

Refer to: http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/Transfer_07.pdf

Realize that TAP won't do you much good for Berkeley. The only (and a huge) advantage you have is that you are transferring from a CCC so hopefully that'll somewhat boost your chance. You do have a chance, but not a good one.

Mea culpa adjustment based on reassessment and admission of weak essays:

UCLA: Safe match
Cal: Slight reach/reach

Thanks. Interesting...

whats a safe gpa for econ berk transfer?
