I am average. Do I have a chance? :)

I took the SAT three, the first time I got a 1090/1690 (570 R 520 M 600 W), the second time I got 1240/1840 (670 R 570 M 600 W). I just took them in June and haven't gotten my scores back yet but I'm pretty confident that at least my math score came up.

My GPA is probably my weakest point, I had something like an 84/85 unweighted at the end of sophomore year, which translated to a 88/89 weighted. I think it will come up a little bit by the end of this year but probably won't get higher than a 90.

Honors:
Freshman Year:
World History H B-

Sophomore Year:
English II H B+
US I H C+

Junior Year:
English III H B+

Senior Year schedule:
English IV H
AP Gov
Bio II CP
Public Speaking/Crafts
Newspaper
Calculus CP

ECs:
SADD - 2 years
Newspaper - 3 years (very selective, hold page editor position and hopefully editor-in-chief next year)
Homework Help Center volunteer program- around 30 service hours for this year, will probably participate again next year and get another 30, and definitely do some additional community service in the mean time. This is a selective program as well.
Over the summer I will be volunteering at my local assemblyman's office, so I'm hoping that will set me apart a little bit.

I want to major in Journalism and probably minor in Political Science. I'm a white female from NJ, if that makes any difference.

Schools I'm interested in:
Rutgers
Ramapo
Temple
Chestnut Hill
Fordham
Drexel
American
UConn
TCNJ
UMD

Thanks!

Anyone? Please? :(

Of the schools I am familiar with, Fordham and TCNJ would be reaches with Ramapo and Rutgers as high matches. Chestnut Hill would definitely be a safety but it strikes me as an odd choice compared to the other schools on your list. It is much smaller and much less selective.

Yeah, I haven’t visited yet but I thought I should look at something completely different because a lot of the schools I’ve been looking at were large state schools. It’s near the city and has a Journalism major and the campus looks pretty so I thought it was worth a visit, at least.

Thanks!

Bump… :)

Obnoxious bumb…
Anyone? Please?

EC’s are extremely weak.

I dont care hare selective it is, no school is going to look that highly upon “newspaper editor”

Its just not important enough for a school to consider greatly, no matter how exclusive it may be

it just doesnt have that exclusive EC ring…

Okay, thanks. I didn’t think they were “exclusive” but I was going for decent. I’m not saying being on the newspaper is like being a national merit finalist or whatever, but 70 or so kids apply each year and around 10 are chosen. I have to ask- are you someone with a 4.0 applying to Harvard? Because none of the schools I listed are THAT prestigious, a few are reaches that I may not even apply to. Thanks, though. I appreciate the input.
