It is my 2nd year in community college and so far, I have a D in my statistics class. I am a deans lister and doing so well in my classes except for this one. The final exam is around the corner and there is no way of dropping the class anymore with a W. I still try to do my homework but I just feel like it is not even helping my grade to get me to a C. I am going for the nursing program and I think D is not good. Should I just stop trying and focus on my other classes or just keep going although I know it won’t get me to C? Also, should I take the final exam? Please help.
^ Yes. At most colleges, the instructor can withdraw you from a course, even if it past the final date for you to do so. You will get a Withdrawal grade on your transcript, but if there’s only one of those, it is no big deal.
You might also want to check with your advisor about taking the class again. Some programs will allow you two tries to pass a required class (and in nursing, passing is nearly always at least a C).
If you end up taking it again, make sure you seek out the professor and any kind of supplemental instruction sessions that are offered. It sounds like you need to know what you don’t understand, if that makes sense.
If you get the chance to retake the course, hire a private tutor right from the start. A good tutor who knows how to make material understandable can sometimes take a student who is failing and completely turn them around into a top student in their class.
Hi there, I would recommend trying out a service like Intellecquity (www.intellecquity.com).
They created a mobile math tutoring app specifically for college students who need math help on-demand with subjects such as statistics.
All you need to do is take a pic of the math problem you are having trouble with and their math experts will show you how to solve that problem in a step by step fashion, showing you the process of solving the question, not just providing you with an answer.
It helped me alot with statistics and I actually managed to pass.
