Lol i remember AP Gov, my teacher was terrible and we didn’t learn much, about 80% of the class failed and the rest got 3’s, i had the highest grade with a 4 and all did was study drills on a site our school is subscribed to called shmoop.

Math is actually my forte, but i would suggest the barron’s sat book. Chapter 8 is basic overview of 70 examples of the possible math questions on the test, if you can figure those out your golden, and even if you cant dont worry, barrons math is much harder than the actual sat math. To get 700+ you want to fly by first 13,14 in less than 10 minutes, most of them are not hard just make sure you didnt make any careless mistakes. The last 6 or 7 may be quite difficult, but as long as you have a firm understanding of geometry and algebra, and at least a minute per problem for these difficult questions, you should be okay. First make sure you know how to answer all the types of questions correctly, then learn to answer quickly.

If you any specific questions or types i could elaborate and explain those more easily, is there any particular type of question or subject in math causing you trouble?

Philovitist, this is what I think goes on in the test-writer’s head for Critical Reading.

Test-writer’s thought
“How can I make these innocent teens’ lives even more miserable even though they have done nothing to me?”
“Oh I got it. I’ll just make many ambiguous critical reading questions and make BS explanations just to screw around with them.”

I’m sorry but that is really what I feel right now.

Philovist does bring up a good point though. I believe the best tactic is to approach passages with face value. I haven’t completely mastered this yet, but I’ve been missing around 2-3 passage-based questions on my last few CR sections. I’m going to take another CR test and see how I do. Again, I’ll be trying to complete test 10 from the blue book. I’ll inform everyone in about 2 hours. This includes writing sections and an essay.

Dang Haphazard, if we are in same time zone, eastern, do you sleep lol???
i thought i slept late at around midnight to 1 am, but you plan on studying even later???

Nah naveedownz. I usually sleep at 2-3 am everyday. My circadian rhythm is variable. Some nights I get no sleep, while other nights I can get around 6 at most. I don’t usually have nights when I can sleep 7-8 hours, unless it’s the weekend. I’m usually sleep deprived due to school work and tests, or something academic related. Yes, I live in an eastern timezone.

Hahahaha. I’m sorry guys. I scored a 690 on the CR test. I looked over a few grammar rules and did the mach essay. I didn’t feel too confident, but I guess it’s worthy of a 10ish. I’ll post it tomorrow, as I’m too lazy to turn on my laptop and type the essay. Typing on my phone would be too lengthy in terms of time. I’m gonna research and read a bit, then I’m done for the night! Sleep finally lol.

I keep getting the 560-620 range on CR. I’ve taken 7 full practice tests, and I still can’t find that ‘click’ that a lot of people on CC seem to be talking about. Any good advice? Writing seems to be my forte, as I’m only missing less than 6 MC on each practice test. My math scores fluctuate a lot. Don’t know why. A lot of people on CC say it’s the easiest section to master. I really hope to get at least 700 on the real thing, but for now, I’m in the 600’s range. I really want to break that 2000, as I am seeking to get into some of the top UC’s. /:
Got to stay working. But it’s so discouraging when you look at the results from your practice tests and see no improvement. Luckily, I’m taking my first SAT this December, so I still have time.

It’s cool that you’re documenting your progress on here, Haphazard. I am also trying to break 2100 as well, but I’m currently standing in the 1900’s range. I look at this thread daily to somewhat simulate your dedication. Maybe I’ll start documenting my progress here too. :P

zfrosting, it’s very nice of you to join us (me and other CCers on this thread.)

Update: I’ll be out of school in two hours. I have a Calc test tomorrow, so I’m definitely going to have to study for that. I also have to do some physics stuff. I’m not sure about bio, as I have bio next period. I’m definitely going to try to finish my homework early. I plan on finishing test 10 and continuing PWN the SAT and SAT CR bible. If I have time, then I’ll squeeze in SAT writing stuff and also review test 10 thoroughly. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday = test 1,2,3.

Thanks for the tips naveedownz! I don’t have the book and can’t get it now but I’ll see if I can find a substitute from somewhere.

After reviewing the math section, I found that I could have gotten 700-720 had it not been for careless mistakes which were caused by time pressure.

However, it’s not only this time. Even if I take a untimed test I still manage to get enough questions wrong to put me below the 650 mark. I know I’m close. I can feel it, however, I just can’t seem to break the mark. I just feel if I could do it once, it would put me at a higher level.

Going to take 3 math sections and finish reviewing the test as well.

As long as you have any SAT prep book that explains math questions answers, you should be able to figure out the mistake you made and fix it. I took my first ever blue book test, got a 2080, R-680, M-730, W-670(giving myself an 8 on essay because that’s what i usually get). My math went down which i should improve on by next test, but reading and writing went up 50 points each, goal for next test is beat 2100.

Same boat here for CR. The vocab is what’s killing me. I’ve seen this thread for about 2.5 months though Haphazard. It is really a brave task you took on. Your dedication is what got me started a few months back. Thank you for that. Maybe I should start actually participating in this thread rather than just view it. I’m sick now though so I’m royally screwed now :/.

I finished 1 section of CR, math and writing each today. Planning to do 1 more section of each tomorrow afternoon.

CR: I missed 3 out of 24, omitted nothing. These questions can get pretty difficult
Math: I missed 3 out of 20, omitted 2 questions. So really, I got 15/18. tears
Writing: I missed 5 out of 35, omitted nothing.

Again, I cannot believe the stupid mistakes I am making. I just cannot focus properly at the moment.

@midosin, if you need help with CR vocab, I highly reccomend studying the exact words from past practice tests. I hated memorizing words from “top SAT words” books because you’ll never know if these words will even appear on the test. Whenever I found a word I didn’t know in my CR sections, I just added it to my Quizlet SAT vocab list so I could test myself on the words I wasn’t familiar with. I’ve amassed to over 140+ words I didn’t know from past tests and I am starting to see some words repeat again.

Thanks for the support everyone. Today’s been a pretty crappy day. I’m feeling like a cold is in my near future. I’ve had basic common cold symptoms all day. I really hope I don’t get a cold because that would definitely hurt me in terms of taking the test on Saturday. I really hate this bipolar-like weather. It’s cold in the mornings - like 43-50 degrees - and warm in the afternoon and evenings - 72-80 degrees - . I got out late of school today because I had to talk to counselors and teachers haha. My counselor nominated me for the Emory scholars program thing. I was kind of happy, but I’m not sure if I’m going to apply ED. I’ll probably receive a decent financial aid package with 50% in grants, but I don’t want to take on 50% worth of loans per year. For those that don’t know, Emory is nearly 60k a year. I’d graduate with 120k in debt and then face med school loans. Anyways guys, I’m nearly finished studying for this Calc quiz that I have tomorrow, was unexpectedly announced today in class. I’m going to finish test 10 and post the results in like an hour or two.
