They announced that they are going to begin the RISD-Brown Dual Degree program starting from the 2008-2009 academic year. THIS STINKS SO BAD!

Why can’t it be starting from the 2007-2008 academic year? Well, i know it’s because they’re smoothing out the kinks, but i wish they had thought of starting the program earlier.

I LOVE brown and yet, RISD is perfect for my artistic needs. I know i can take classes at either school, but with the different scheduling, that’s near impossible to do (ive heard).

This is really depressing. I’m considering taking a year off JUST to apply to the program. Even though they only accept 20, it’s worth a shot? I really don’t care that its a 5 year program. Theyre my two perfect schools.

correct me if i'm wrong, but judging by your chances post, i'm assuming that you're going to be applying THIS year (meaning you're not already an incoming freshman). that means that your first academic year at brown will be 2008-2009. In that case, you have nothing to be angry about. no?

I am an art major at Brown and I find taking classes at RISD just fine. But it depends a lot on your field (I'm in ceramics, a department without many students).

Ask yourself if you want to study art and get a well rounded education or be in an art immersion program

OK...before you apply to Brown, you need to work on your anger....Please, otherwise, I will make sure that you are not admitted to either program.

It is not impossible to take RISD courses if enrolled at Brown. My daughter attends Brown and has taken RISD courses. ClaySoul's post #3 is what the crux of your issue entails. You also can attend Brown for undergrad and go to RISD for grad school. In fact, my daughter intends to apply to RISD as one optioin for grad school.

mana: from what ive heard, theyre accepting applicants from the seniors of 2008-2009 academic year.

and i understand u can take classes at either school, but i dunno, i justthink both schools are perfect and i really cant choose one over the other. so for me, this dual program was the perfect solution

rence: in that year, i can really beef up my stats through travelling, work experience...etc

and searchingon, you really dont know who i am, so dont assume i have an anger problem just because of a post.

I know what you mean. I started a thread on this sort of. I'm a RISD kid and I want to double major at Brown. It's awesome they made this program but it sucks for those of us who just missed out. I'm looking into double majoring anyway, I think we're allowed to do it on our own...

You guys talk about this as if anyone could do it. I'm sure it's going to be very competitive for those 20 spots, let alone getting into Brown AND RISD.

believe me, i know the program is going to be extremely hard to get into. i don't think i know anyone who could have gotten into BOTH of these colleges right out of hs. and i don't think i'm going to get into brown when i apply this year so i'm not assuming i'm double-majoring or anything but hey i can dream right?
