As the title states, I am confused. I'm about to ask my professor/teacher for a letter of recommendation, but I don't know what to give him. I haven't finished my essays/application itself, so am I even allowed to ask him for it? I'm asking this because I read that you're supposed to send your entire application in one big envelope, and since I'm going to waive my right to not read the recommendation, that means that his letter must go in last and that he must send it in. Does this mean that I'm not allowed to ask him for it?

Yes ask him for it. If using the common app, you have him upload it on your behalf. If he wants to just give you a paper copy, just send it in whenever you get it – regardless of when you send your application in – your folder will be getting various forms and documents at different times. Don’t wait for them while you get your portion done. The rec letter does not have to accompany your application. Often the rec letter is a “one size fits all” that is used for multiple schools. Don’t worry as this is the norm.

If you waive the right to look at it, just give him stamped envelopes, addressed with the college addresses or ask him to upload it through the common app.

Oh, okay thank you.
And I was browsing through college websites and their admissions page, and I found that some of the colleges I want to apply to do not have anything about teacher recommendations, meaning that they don’t have anything for me to print out and give to the teacher. What should I do in this case? Do I simply hand him an empty envelope?
