YES! lol. sorry, I'm just excited. I contacted the chair of the psych department, and I will be switching from philosophy to psychology. I may even double major depending on the rigor of the upper divs.

I have to complete my last 2 prereqs over summer/fall, but that won't be a problem. Pending I complete these, I can head into the psych major for spring 2011.

Next issue: Begging L&S to let me in for fall.

@ Johnny: Just about definite. I’m going to try to get in for fall cuz I’m just greedy like that lol, but even if they don’t let me in, I’ll be living there at Berkeley and doing research with professors/boosting my resume in the interim until spring. I begin at UCB this summer for summer session, and then again in the spring.

My friend, it would appear that you and I will be Bears this fall.

@ jayrod: I’m about to head off (I know - early for me haha), but I applied as a philosophy major initially. I had a 3.74 GPA and 150 hours volunteering at an elderly assisted living center and tutored kids. My unique qualities, I think is what got me in through my e-mail to the psych department.

8 psych classes under my belt

4.0 in prereqs

mentioned their research journal that I’ve read and cited the most enjoyable findings

passion for psych

etc.

@ Eshug: Very nice haha. Good luck at UCLA, man!

@ Kevin: Thanks man. Oh, and of course I’m going tomorrow…I gotta buy a sweatshirt to officially commit lol. Plus, I want to drop-in for an appointment to verify things. If you don’t have class, I’m down for BART-ing up, and we could hit up Berkeley. Up to you though. I have a night class at 6:30 I need to be back for though…ahh chem always has to ruin everything haha.

Do you know if it’s even possible to appeal your spring acceptance for the fall? I’m interested in doing this as well, but I’m not sure how to go about it.

If for whatever reason you need to contact/message me…leave a message with Yunie because I’ll be away for the week. Oh that might be difficult too because she’s busy this week too…okay, just leave a message! [:

I never had a doubt emil. I contacted my admit rep and she said that I was admitted to the college of letters and science, not to any specific major. She said everyone (transfers) petitions for a major before their second semester at Cal. My question is this: Why even put down an intended major on the application? If your going to be admitted to the school, and then do whatever you want after that, why even apply as a so called (fill in the blank) major? Why not just apply to the college itself? Where as at UCLA I was admitted to the major and the college of L and S together.

Congrats man, and (officially) welcome to the Cal group! Now go burn your LA package and decline their SIR so you don’t have a chance to turn back, hahah (just kidding, of course >:] )

I got in, so I think it turned out pretty well :D

considering I maintained a 3.6 for the last 2 years, after having a .75 my first year of college 4 years ago. after the academic renewal my gpa was like a 3.48. well below the average of most admits.

I’d say the essay is probably the reason I got in. this forum has been a great resource.

your advice in particular was extremely helpful. thanks man.
