Sometimes, I sleep for 6 hours, and next day, I'm 100%. Other times, I sleep 8+ hours, and next day, I feel like crap. Most of the time, I sleep for around 6 hours, and feel like crap the next day.

Yesterday, I crashed in front of the TV at 7:00 pm for a nap. Afterward, I dragged myself into bed, without dinner. I woke up today on my own at 7:00 AM. That's 12 hours. At first, I was fine, but now, I feel dead tired. I can't for the life of me figure this out.

Doctors recommend 7-8 hours of sleep for people our age. Not 12, not 6. I’m not a sleep expert and I don’t think anyone else on these boards is so there’s not much else to say than other both too much and too little sleep can and will cause fatigue.

I am like that sometimes, too. For me, I think my body is shifting. I used to need 10-12 hours of sleep to feel refreshed. Now I only need 8 or 9, it seems, but it’s not consistent. If you need more than 6 and you are usually getting 6, you have to realize the effects last more than a day-- getting more sleep the next day doesn’t undo what you did the night before, and you may feel fine one day after but not the next day because you slept too little again or because it took a while for the first night to hit you. Maybe you should strive for getting 7-9 hours every night at least for a week or two and see if that stabilizes things. I know for me that is next to impossible to accomplish, but you have to at least try, you know. lol

Sleeping 12 hours now makes me feel like crap. If you find you’ve slept too much, I’ve found drinking lots of water helps. I get headaches when I do that and water is the only thing that makes it go away.

Try being insomniactic some nights getting only 3 hours and then trying to go to bed earlier (which never works as i wake up multiple times during the night) and getting about 8. It doesn’t help when one is sick either. ><

I’m not quite sure if it’s proven or not, but the sleep you get tonight (Tuesday), for example, will affect how you feel on Thursday. That’s why you’re supposed to get a good night’s sleep 2 days before an exam or some other incredibly important event.
