I can't think of anything to write about for UC essays! and read details and understand my stupidity

I’m like millions of people who grew up playing absurd amounts of video games and have since been addicted and only now about 4 months ago did i realize how it was eating up my life and I got rid of it, but now I find I have nothing to write about at all as all I did freshmen-Junior year was playing video games. I have a 4.3 gpa, im in wrestling and marching band all 4 years, 1440 sat and I’m trying UCSD for bio med…I have always had a strong interest in math but i already wrote about it. I should’ve joined NHS but I didnt and I only have 16 hours of community service to total and it was senior year.

There’s no point in “shoulda, coulda, woulda.”

But here’s the thing: you essay doesn’t have to be about the school activities you’ve been in. You’ve already mentioned one essay about that the realization that video games were robbing you of time you could spend elsewhere. That sounds like one very possible essay.

Here’s what worked wtih my son: brainstorm each of the prompts, coming up with anything at all that could apply. Set a timer for 4 minutes and write down anything at all that could possibly apply-- the time you got a flat when you were driving by yourself, the first time you ever baked the perfect chocolate chip cookie, whatever. Then narrow it down from there.

The best essays I’ve read haven’t been about NHS or Science Olympiad, they’ve been small “slice of life” essays that show WHO you are and how you’ve grown.
