I completely messed up on my Calc AB midterm!?!?!

I did so badly that my grade dropped from a B+ to a C+. I had decided to study more for Euro because i always seem to manage a B in math when i study minimally for it. Also, I needed a higher grade on my AP Euro midterm to maintain my A than the grade I would need to maintain my B+ in Calc. I’ve never been strong in math and i applied to brown with interests in biology and psychology. I know a C+ is terrible but how screwed am I?

Sooo my grades for Mid year report:

AP Euro A-
AP Lit A
Anatomy & Phys H (college credit) A
Spanish for med. Honors A
AP Calc AB C+
Humanities(needed arts credit) A
Gym (mandatory) A+

Note: my school is not on a block scheduele so the C+ is not a final grade. Would Brown possibly check up on my math grade a month or so from now to see if it got better(assuming that im a competitive applicant)?

*I’m just frustrated. I worked so hard the last few years and i screw it all up now on 1 exam. ■■■

ok so nobody has anything to say… I take this to mean that you’re all thinking “one less applicant I have to compete with”

thanks

i honestly have no idea. I can tell you that for ED, they called our GC for our 1st quarter grade. HOWEVER, I doubt that they’ll see that because they have midterms with semester grades only. There’s no reason to look at your quarter grade rather than your semester grade.

hey they look at your first semester grades. for ED they look at your first quater grades. if it avgs to a B i think youll be ok

my average before the midterm was a B+. It dropped to a C+ after the midterm because it held so much weight. so i guess im screwed then

well are you planning on majoring in math? and have you had your interview yet?
and even if so, i would not say that hope is lost. youre other grade are very good.

“Note: my school is not on a block schedule so the C+ is not a final grade.” what does tht mean then? Also, you applied in 2 math-related majors (yes, not in hs, but I know math applies to both. idk to what extent). idk if you’re screwed, but your chances definitely declined. Luckily for you, they should be far enough into the admissions process where grades are not the primary focus.

swim2daend: i mean that it’s a year long course instead of a semester one. I can bring it up into the B range by the end of the year.

@ joem4d: not planning to major in math but swim2daend says my majors are somewhat math related. & i’ve already had my interview (like 2 weeks ago)

I still wouldn’t be INCREDIBLY concerned. It doesn’t throw you out. It does have an impact though. I’m just saying that it can be detrimental, but I don’t think anyone of us has enough knowledge to say for sure. If it was your first slip up ever, then it might not hurt as much.

yeah i was going to say if you didnt have your interview already explain your Calc situation to the interviewer, but that already passed. umm, i agree w/ swim, nothing you can do about it. and you will never know if that is the deciding factor anyway. hope and pray!

It does hurt a lot. I know how you feel - my Calc midterm dropped my grade by more than 5 points. :(

Interviewers don’t evaluate you based on your grades, so that would not be a good subject to explain to the alumni interviewer.
