Most of my application is finished, I'm working on my autobiographical essay and trying to figure out who to ask for recommendations. I assume we should be choosing someone who is familiar with our work habits and abilities. I'll probably pick two of my teachers at the community college I attend.

I'm excited! Hopefully this will all work out, somehow.

Good luck, Irishmom! You might also want to apply to the Mount Holyoke program.

I love that Smithies welcome Adas as an important part of the campus community.

Congrats!! I really hope you make it.

Hi Irishmom,

You may have already finished the application process, but if not, I would suggest that you focus very heavily on writing a great essay and conveying through it who you are and what makes you a great candidate.

I think that the interview is also extremely important. I did mine by phone and before beginning, I wrote down a list of points that I wanted to convey and kept them in front of me during the call. I was careful to directly answer all of the questions, but also work in the things I wanted to say within those answers.

I didn't know any of my profs at the community college (only attended one quarter) well enough to ask for recommendations, so I asked a couple of senior execs from my company to write them. It all worked out and I love it at Smith.

Personally, I would not apply to the MHC program if you really want to go to Smith (unless of course, you really like MHC too). If I recall correctly, you have a low number of credits (like I did) and you can always spend a year improving your credentials and attending community college if you don't get accepted. Just a personal preference, but I would have stayed home and gone to the University of Washington if Smith had not accepted me. If I was going to go 3000 miles across the country to school, it was going to be at the place I really wanted to attend. :-)

Best of Luck!!

I would say "see you in the fall" but I'm going to be in either Cordaba Spain or Puebla Mexico for my junior year. Whoohoo!!!!
