I did the Dec 10 ACT internationally and none of the discussions look familiar AT ALL

Do international students get a different test paper ??? None of what is being discussed on any of threads looks at all familiar... plus I finished the entire test..

Does this normally happen??

I would imagine they would give international students a different test for test security reasons. However, 2 of the reading passages were apparently from a past ACT, so they obviously don’t care too much about their test security…

Yeah I suppose that could have happened… I see that the majority of people are commenting on how easy the reading, math and english… I got a very different impression as the reading seemed unusually hard … which is also weird cause the reading and eng sections are my strongest sections… :/

@JME1992 (I posted this on the other thread too, before I saw this one…)-

I think us international students must have gotten a different test, because I don’t recognize ANY of the questions either! And if they are talking about religion of the essay graders mattering, I don’t think I had the same essay topic either…

Is this the first time they’ve done this, given different tests to intl and domestic applicants? Where did you take the test, JME1992?

This has been going on for a very long time already. International students get a different test.

Search this forum if you want to know more.

So are the curves for international ACT tests different?

@mikm77 I took the test in Cyprus  and whatever paper I got was definitely not the same as the majority of the posters here… As far as essay goes, my topic had nothing to do with religion LOL
Where did you take the test?

After looking at all the discussions, there is no doubt we did a different paper. At first I got really worried that I just completely messed up but I definitely didn’t have the same questions… For instance everyone is talking about how easy the reading was and at least for me (which is odd since reading and eng are my strong suites), the reading was at least at a medium level of difficulty if not a high one.

@ahmehmood yeah that’s a very good question. Does anyone know about the curve for international students??

Didn’t anyone feel science section so difficult this time?
I completely messed up science section on this test… I think T_T
How were you guys doing at science section??? anyone?

I took the international exam as well. Did you guys have Form 62A? Are the Forms different exams or different answer choices for the same exam?

I think I bombed the reading section. I spent too much time reading the Prose Fiction that I had to rush through my remaining passages and went straight to the questions for the science passage. Did you find the reading section unusually hard?

I didn’t relate to the essay prompt at all and I am pretty sure I did really bad on that.

I felt good about English. Math and Science seemed slightly tougher than usual, but since they are my stronger sections, I think I was okay with that.

So does anyone know if we get an international curve? I am thinking that it might work in our favor for the reading. However, it wouldn’t make much sense for an international curve because the people who take the ACT internationally are usually stronger students and would represent an unfair distribution. Does anyone have any input in this?

What do you think the curve will be like?

@Arsenal4vr I also had form 62A and I completely agree about the reading!! It was terrible! The passages and question seemed longer and far more in depth than anything I practiced. While I was studying, I created a plan to spend no more than 8 minutes on three of the passages and slightly longer on one but in the actual exam, the first passage (prose) took me a ridiculous amount of time. By the time I got to the third passage (which for me was the fourth since I did them out of order) I had literally five mins to do that one and the next. I had to guess for the majority of the last passage I did.

I also agree that the math and science were no walk in the park. They weren’t ridiculously tough but they certainly weren’t easy. The english was overall good for me (I think).

Yeah I’m also curious about the curve… In some ways it could help us since generally those that did the international exam aren’t taught under the American curriculum and so they could be more lenient. That said, they could be more strict since generally foreign curriculums are harder than the American (well at least the British one is, which is what I was taught) and so they could just expect us to do well…

I took it in Singapore…yay for there being like 10 people in the whole country taking it xD

I didn’t think the English/Reading/Science were too bad…just a few tricky ones here and there.

However, *** was Math?!!? It’s usually my strongest area, but I ran out of time at the end, and didn’t even get to look at the last three :stuck_out_tongue: I think the trig questions were much harder than usual- what was the one that was like cosø=-a? how could the answer be negative??

So not looking forward to these scores.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who that the reading was more difficult than any of the practices. Well, in fairness, the Prose Fiction was really bad. I looked at my watch and I finished reading it in 5.5 minutes, normally it takes 2.5, so I knew right away that I was in trouble. The other three weren’t necessarily harder than normal, but because I had to make up for the lost time, I know I did badly since I rushed through all my decisions and didn’t check with the passage.

@Mikm77 Check my pm
For math, I normally finish it within 40 minutes. I did the first 20 in like 10 minutes, so I decided to slow down to avoid careless mistakes. Surprisingly, I ended up taking most of the time. It was definitely not an easy one compared to the practice tests.

Another ACT International (Dec 2011) Test Student Here - From Britain.

For those that took it in this country, what was your essay question (as I just want to make sure we had the same test, as the other ACT Dec 2011 test threads make no sense to me as the questions are all different)? What test centre did everyone sit the test at by-the-by?

:)

Did you have a space debris passage? What did you think about it? Our essay was about free education supplies.

Yep, I had the space debris passage. And the essay about free educational supplies in exchange for advertising. What were you guys reasons/points for that essay?

I had none…I probs got like a 6. Mine was really really bad

Yeah I had the space debris one and the same essay question… The essay seemed ridiculous to me… I found it somewhat hard to find points to discuss…

I’m really not looking forward to these scores :(

Agreed. Completely dreading them, in fact. And to think I thought they’d be higher than my SAT scores :P

My reasons were like:

  1. Lessen burden on federal deficit
-Short Term Effect: Newer educational materials faster
-Long Term Effect: Less debt to pay back later
  2. Provides basis for smart consumer education classes
    -STE: Real life lessons
-LTE: Next generation will be smarter consumers
  3. New materials improve learning
    -STE: Increase student engagement
    -LTE: Increase student grades

Not my strongest ever, for sure…

I also had the ‘free educational supplies for advertising’ essay question - it was such an alien concept here in the UK, and it just COMPLETELY left me dumb-founded as to provide an articulate answer, so I just ended up throwing together a few random reasons for the proposal.

By the way, what Reading passages did you guys have?
