I am a transfer student (age 19)...I got accepted July 1st, and sent in my confirmation deposit the same day. They received the deposit and then I tried to apply for housing, but I kept getting an error message. I had to call and straighten that out.

By the time the online application was fixed and I applied for housing it was July 18th (the deadline is September 1st). This week I got an email that I didn't get a room and am on the "waiting list" and it may be winter quarter before I get a room.

I am so upset...I can't afford an apartment and my commute will be about two and a half to three hours each way.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? It says that they assign people on the waiting list based on application date and commuting distance...so am I right to assume that since I applied (relatively) quickly and my commute is so long that I am high on the list?

Also, does anyone have any experience with the waiting list for housing? I wonder how long I might have to wait, and also how many people cancel/decide to rush or whatever.

My A&O is next week so I will definitely go to the housing office then but I was curious to see if any CC members had any input for me. Thanks in advance for the help.
