I didn't submit my writing supplements?!?!?!?!?

Okay so...I am kind of freaking out right now. After getting an email from NYU saying that I never submitted a writing supplement--I thought it was just some sort of fluke, but I sent them an email with the supplement anyway and it all worked out fine. But then, as I was submitting my Bucknell application today, I realized that I had never submitted writing supplements to Carnegie Mellon or Notre Dame. I was stupid and just thought that when you paid the money for the Common App, that meant you submitted the writing supplements too. Keep in mind that today is January 11....and the deadline was January 1. Somehow, I was able to still submit to Notre Dame, but I was unable to submit to Carnegie Mellon so I just emailed admissions at CMU. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN NOW do you think they'll still accept it even thought it is technically TEN DAYS LATE?!?! I really did finish those supplements on time. I am really worried please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and should I email admissions at Notre Dame? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME KTHANKS

The only thing you can do now is to email each adcom. You never bothered to check your status? Wouldn’t your common app tell you it’s not complete without the supplement? I remember my kid used to be able to track online what was submitted and what else was missing.

Common app wrote on their facebook
“January 7
Now that you’ve submitted your app, take a moment to make sure that you actually submitted your app. Go to your My Colleges page and check the status for each college to confirm that you submitted your application and not just your payment. And it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check that you’ve submitted all required Writing Supplements.”

So I’m guessing that others have made the same mistake. Hopefully CMU will just be understanding given all of the problems with Common App. I would contact Notre Dame and let them know what happened.

This same thing literally just happened to me with Duke and Notre Dame - deadline was January 1 and I submitted my Common App on time, but didn’t submit the writing portion until just now.

How did it work out for you?

@iamsashafierce and @sophie5413 You should call admissions first thing in the morning AND follow up with an email. If you go to common app, click on the dashboard tab and select on a school. You will see for those that had separate writing supplements that it is broken up into two categories: Application and Writing Supplement. You will see when each of these were downloaded. Just because you submitted the writing supplement late, you don’t want to assume that the college went back and downloaded the writing supplement.

For CMU, @iamsashafierce you will have to find out how CMU wants to receive the supplement if they are still willing to accept it.

Good luck to both of you.

It happens to the best of applicants. The CA is not easy to use as it professes. Send them all now and send an email to the ADCOMS explaining your mistake. They get it. They’ve seen it before. It will not hurt you except that your app will go to the end of the line, and as they fill the class spots remaining are less.

I called the admissions offices this morning and they told me that they will still review my applications! No big deal! (although it probably reflects poorly on my personal responsibility) but oh well.
