I don't even know where to begin.

I want to start my personal statements this week, but I have no idea where to even begin. The UC personal statements are the ones I want to complete first since the college I really would like to attend is UCLA or Berkeley. I have no clue how to start my statement or how I'm gonna display myself properly. Can anyone give me some advice on do's and don'ts for personal statements? I really would like all the help I can get.

Here are the two UC prompts:

1) Describe the world you come from -- for example, your family, community or school -- and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

2) Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

bump (10 chars)

I'm in the same boat as you.

These are the same as pretty much any other college admissions essay in terms of what to do and what not to do.

Do you know what you're going to write on yet? That's the first thing to do.

As to how to display yourself properly, just be yourself and don't force it. What makes you who you are? Make sure all the good aspects of that person come out in your application somewhere.

Yeah those are pretty much generic prompts. Think of a topic you can write about and show your passion and main strengths.
