So I thought I was going to get into AP Spanish next year... not happening apparently. I'll still be in high honors, which is only .01 point difference when really weighted.

I'm taking a college course this summer (at NYU actually) and am looking for another course in the fall to take.

My question is, will that significantly hurt my chances of getting in? My classes next year will be more challenging then this year, so the admissions will hopefully see an improvement in work load as the years have gone by. Please help!?

If you’re taking college courses at NYU then you should be fine.

Real college classes > AP’s (most of the time)

How many are you taking over the summer? 1 may not be enough and it depends on which one you take over the summer. Maybe take some that satisfy NYU requirements if you were to accept their offer?

The part about taking a more challenging course load next year is definitely good but everyone in your pool probably will do the same.

I did not take any AP’s until senior year of high school(this year). And after sending in my transcript, the transcript needed to be resent in October in order to indicate that I dropped AP Bio. Right now I’m in 2 AP classes. It’s not a big deal if you have good SAT scores, GPA and essays.

It could very well be a problem based on your course rigor. It also depends on how many AP courses that your school offers vs. how many you took (which is 0). MANY colleges look at course rigor as strongly as they look at GPA. I don’t think that taking 1 college course (over the summer) is going to make up for your lack of AP’s if your school offers a good selection of them. Also, if you are applying to top tier schools - it is definitely going to be a problem.

^ Hearing that doesn’t make me feel any better applying to NYU this fall. The reason why I haven’t taken any honors or AP classes is because I got really behind in school due to some personal issues in my life. If I wasn’t going through that, I would’ve taken some harder courses. But because of my personal issues, I’m catching up on school doing a large chunk of coursework.

^^^^^^^^If you have extenuating circumstances that you can write about and/or have you guidance counselor elaborate about, that may help your case. Good luck.^^^^^^^
