I don't know how to advise my son -- help!

Yes, agree with sherpa. My Ds school started a multi-variable calc class to take the year after BC because they felt the kids forget so much Calc in 1 year.

Midwestmom, sorry to confuse you. I am the liberal arts major, which is why I have no idea what he's studying anymore. Way over my head. :)

dmd, no Ivy ambitions here. A couple of selective colleges have caught his attention (Rice, Pomona), but no HYP for us. Though, we make less than $60K, so they sound attractive from that standpoint!

ucsd-ucla, yes, we feel very lucky to have such a great academic environment. The downside is that, often, kids feel trapped by their academic peer group and then don't know when to get off that speeding train. They push and push themselves to the point where they are miserable because they don't want to be "left behind." It's definitely academic machismo. We'll see how he feels next year when most in his class opt for the BC route. He might be sorry. But, like I said, we're not interested in Ivies. A happy boy with good, if not great, grades is my goal.

As I said earlier, he has plenty of rigor in next year's sked, or at least I think so. All APs for Physics, AB Cal, English, USH, Psych, Enviro Studies and Latin IV, and then some electives. I don't have any hope he'll get all As. And I'd like for him to not be miserable for the entire year. He's going to be a club prez next year, and he plays a varsity sport, plus he'll be finishing up his Eagle project (I hope!)
