I am going to apply to college. I do not know how to write my essay. I don't know what to write it about, how to write it, and I don't feel like reading random articles on the Internet about it.

Someone tell me how to start? What things should I touch upon and which things should I avoid including into the essay?

Just so you know I like technology and online gaming (probably not gonna include that in my essay). I was thinking about writing an essay about how I like to help people, and with my skills in technology I can use those skills to make the world a better place. But I think that's a bit fake and they'll easily catch up on that.

So how do I start? I need to write at least 2 (hopefully 3) essays within the next 3 weeks.

Listen to your heart.

Check your colleges’ supplements and start there. After you’ve written all of your supplement essays for every college you’ll probably be more in the writing flow and have tons of ideas in your head. Good luck :)

I still don’t know where to start :(

Well the supplements give you assigned prompts so just write whatever they tell you to…

Okay, first you obviously need a good topic. Online gaming is probably NOT going to work b/c you don’t want to seem like a gaming addict. I think the idea about using tech to help the world is actually decent; make sure you provide specific ex. of how tech can aid society so that it doesn’t seem too generic or cliche. Make the essay like 500-700 words (no longer or else you may bore the admissions officers). Also, don’t try to be overly pedantic and use hard words capriciously b/c then it sounds too fake; just try to use a conversational/casual, but also gramatically-correct, tone. For other essay ideas, you could try influential person, travel experience, academic classes you’ve enjoyed-I know they’re a little cliche but it’s nearly impossible to come up with an “original” essay these days.

I generally start essays with a topic sentence :)
