I dont know what to major in...

I have some weird interests, including language (especially foreign) music, supernatural/horror type stuff, creative stuff, and often people-but NOT science-which dont seem to lead anywhere in particular career wise. So what kinds of majors have you guys created, seen, or heard of, and where have they led? or not led? I thought Lutherie might, for instance, be a nice career for me, but no one teaches or certifies it. So anything at all:)

From previous posts you’ve made, it looks like you’re still a high school senior. So, this isn’t the most important thing yet. Take the classes that look the most interesting to you, and something might click as a possible major. Plus, once you get to a college/university, many have career offices where you can take something called a Strong Interest Inventory, which will suggest particular fields that match your strengths and interests.

BFA Writing?

I am still a senior, and I know it’s not the most important thing yet. But I do find the strange majors and stuff like that interesting, so I got curious and figured it couldn’t hurt just to see what people have found.

Film Studies

Folklore & Mythology

Cultural Anthropology

Religious Studies

Linguistics

Ethnomusicology

I second XaviFM’s Creative Writing suggestion, though mine is a B.A.

Sociology

Secular Studies

Linguistics would be cool too. Then you can focus on several languages at once.

@samie2012: There is a Lutherie School at Red Rocks CC, which is a regionally accredited school. It’s located in Colorado. Their A.S. degree is in Fine Woodworking, with certificates for:

Luthier Technician
Luthier Craftsman
Luthier Fundamentals

[Red Rocks Community College :: Fine Woodworking & Lutherie](http://www.rrcc.edu/finewood/index.html)

Another option would be the American School of Lutherie in Portland, Oregon.
[American School of Lutherie, Guitar Making School, Build Your Own Guitar, Guitar Building School, Guitar Making Classes, Acoustic, Electric, Guitar Building Classes, Guitar Making Courses, Lutherie School, Luthier School, Charles Fox](http://www.americanschooloflutherie.com/)

I honestly couldn’t tell you what the prospects are for this field. I almost entered a violin-making program at the North Bennett Street School in Boston before deciding to return to academia. Even though I love my current grad program, there’s always a little regret about abandoning that path.

definitely going to have to look some of those up. I love how helpful everyone always is on this forum:) have to wait till i get computer access again though

Humanities departments have some awesome classes in niche areas. I’m taking a class called “The Sixties in America” right now and it’s amazing. You might like some sort of interdisciplinary “letters” major?
