I Don't Think I'm About to Get Into UGA :(

I am a senior so the day has finally come to see if I am the least bit qualified to get into UGA. I need everyone to be brutally honest so I know what I am getting myself into. I just don’t want people to say my chances are good and then I don’t get in. That would kill me.

Weighted GPA: 3.833
Un-Weighted GPA: 3.694 (Guys! Does that qualify as a 3.70 or not? I want to apply for Zell Miller Scholarship)
ACT composite: 25 (THIS SCORE WILL KILL ME-It is too late to do it again)

Rigor: Freshman year- gifted language arts and biology, cp French and algebra 1, and AP Human geography
Sophomore year- food and nutrition (cp), geometry (cp), French II(cp) gifted chemistry, AP World History, and AP Track lit.
Junior year- cp physics, cp algebra 2, French 3 honors, AP Lit, AP Chem, and AP US HIST
Senior year- AP Lang, AP Econ/Gov, AP Statistics, AP French, AP Biology, and AP Psychology

I only sent in my grades up to junior year though. Trust me when I say that was a good idea.

I GOT A DISCIPLANARY REFERRAL IN JUNIOR YEAR BECAUSE A STUDENT IN MY CP PHYSICS CLASS CHEATED OFF MY QUIZ AND I DIDN’T CARE BECAUSE I THOUGHT HE WAS CUTE… literally go ahead. laugh at me. I know I still do. man that was a big blow though :frowning:

I never go to do sports because I had a serious injury in freshman year of highschool. Even working during the school year was not applicable to me because my parents supplied any money I needed for personal satisfaction.

Clubs:
-Key Club (10th)
-Beta club (10th,11th, 12th)
-French National Honors Society (11th, 12th)
-Partnership in Action (11th)
-Torch Tutoring for Freshman (12th) THIS IS A GREAT CLUB RECOGNIZED FOR LEADERSHIP!

I know this all may not be much. I wanted to try and get involved in more leadership opportunities but I never made the cut. I think my biggest downfall was my absences. I had 11 last year, and I’m pretty sure that’s why I didn’t get accepted into other things like senior cabinet and student government, and leadership team but they said that attendance is a priority! I also tried out for president of French National Honors Society and lost by two votes which killed me but everything happens for a reason.

Volunteering: I have accumulated up to 400 hours of community service. I think I will graduate with the 400 hours mark too.

Sunday School Teacher (7th-11th)

I was really into teaching little kids and it was truly a great experience for me to gain some self-confidence. The only reason that I did not continue senior year was because transportation has become and issue and I am looking into getting into things that relate with what I want to head into in the next few years (medical school).

Friday Night Youth Group (11th)-I taught kids about religion and we did arts and crafts and had discussions. This youth group was eventually discontinued, though.

St. Francis Atlanta Soup Kitchen (10th)- I was going around for a few months helping the administration cook and pack boxes that would be taken later in the day to the kitchen. I had to go run and buy groceries, manage events and dates, and try to keep contact with volunteers to help later in the week. I savored that time when I got to interact with the community.

ICNA Relief Clinic (12th)- this may be the best volunteering experience that I have done. I basically handle filing, getting money orders for patients in need of labs, I do triage for patients, shadow numerous doctors (all with different expertise-gynecology, orthopedic, etc), and a big load of other things. I plan to continue this during college, but it does have to do with my future medical aspirations.

Dental Care Clinic (12th)- This summer, I shadowed a dentist for a few hours every day. I also did other jobs like sorting patient’s files, and organizing the computer system etc, but I also spent some time assisting the doctor- grabbing simple supplies and whatever else so the dentist can spend more time with the patient, etc.

Awards:
Academic Letter
Academic Pin
Teacher of the Year for Sunday School (2013-2014, 2014-2015)
Soaring Eagle Award Winner (comes from the principal)

Oh and basic information about me: I reside in Georgia and am probably staying in state for school. I am Pakistani which is unfortunate because many schools already have a load of the Asian population residing in school anyways! Umm… my parents went to college themselves so I will not be a first-generation student.

So what do you guys think? You think I have any chance getting into UGA? I really just want to go here. I do consider that I worked pretty hard in highschool academically. The ACT score is so low though and that was the second time I took it. I can’t even superscore guys! Like that is it for me. Do you think the ACT score and referral will cause for me to not get accepted in regular descicion?

SO NERVOUS :frowning:

If you want to check your HOPE GPA, you should be able to go onto GACollege411. If your school hasn’t set things up on that profile, you can calculate it yourself. (The calculations should be found on the same website)
To answer your question… a 3.694 does not round to a 3.7, but the GPA your school gives you could be different than your HOPE GPA, as they could be calculated differently.

Your volunteer hours are really impressive. That could really help you for admissions. Your ECs are fine, but they seem to be pretty basic. I just hope on your application, you really emphasized all of the community service you did.
I don’t understand how you could have only sent grades up to Junior year, unless you mean you sent grades through the end of junior year. It is highly recommended for you to send your first semester senior grades, because if you do get accepted and choose to go, they will see those grades anyways when you send the final transcript.
Your GPA isn’t that bad, especially since you have a pretty rigorous schedule. They recalculate all GPAs, so try to recalculate it so it fits UGA’s model.

Ah yes, the test scores. I will admit, your ACT is below average for the school. The good news is that admissions conducts a holistic review, meaning that they look at all aspects of your application before making the final decision. My only hope for you is that you really emphasized your volunteer service, because those can help make up for the lower ACT.
The disciplinary referral could also hurt. I do not know how much, but the best thing to do is be honest about it with the university.

I do not know for certain if you will get in. Your application will not automatically be denied because of the test score, but they do play a role in admissions. I would say your chances are about below 50%. The fact that you are in state will also help. .

Remember, there are letters of recommendations and essays that play a role in the decision, too. If you have not applied already, get a teacher that knows you well to write a good rec. Really show who you are in your essays, as they are very important. There is a space at the end of the application to make any new comments.

Abwee67 Thank you so much! I understand what you’re saying but you stated it much better compared to whatever else was floating through my head. Do you think it would also help that my sister goes to UGA too? She is currently a junior going in senior year so I would asusme that this would give me a little boost. What do you think?

I don’t think UGA weighs legacy status as heavily as other colleges might. Then again, I’m sure it could make a slight difference, but don’t put all your trust into it.

Out of curiosity, where are you at school this semester?

You just might being a GA resident. Don’t give up hope!

Honestly not looking good - I am only a high school senior though.

GPA-subpar (class rank could help depending if you are in top 10%)
ACT-subpar (average last EA was 31)
ECs (average)

The cheating will hurt a lot.
I would have to give you a 10-25% chance.

Best of luck

I would like everyone to know that I actually did get into UGA, and even that was the “early” section for normal decision. I can’t say I’m having the best time of my life but coming here is still a decent experience.

Good luck to the rest of you guys during another annual college season

@lololok sorry to hear you are not having a great time at UGA . Can you elaborate? Why not? Social scene, classes, professors?

Hopefully you just need more time to adapt and things will improve

UGA is a pretty big reach for you with those stats. Are you going to take the SAT or ACT again? I’d make sure to have safety backups you are happy with attending. Maybe you can transfer in sophomore or junior year.

Zell does not round up. You need to get A’s this year and get your ACT or SAT score up to be eligible.

Don’t give up hope! Your GPA is great for your course load and your community service is also really good! My sister is currently a junior, and she got into Georgia with a 1650/2400 on the old test! It is very possible to get in with low scores

Y’all, she got in lol

Hi, you said you got into UGA with a 25 ACT composite is that right? If so, I was wondering why on your Emory tread that you claimed that you had a 32 ACT composite. If you did, why didn’t you just send in the 32 to UGA also? Just confirming. I have the same 25 ACT and 3.8 GPA as you and I am also worried about my acceptance to UGA, please respond to give me some reassurance, thank you.

I got into UGA early action with an 1130 sat and 3.9 UW GPA and 4.4 W GPA. and that’s EA.
