Hi I’m a senior this year in ga. Please be honest and tell me my chances
My gpa weighted is a 3.8 but unweighted is a 3.3. I took all honors and ap class up until my freshman year. My senior I take full dual enrollment meaning my classes are all at the local college.
My act is a 25( I took it three times and it won’t go up)- I guess I’m not a test taker
My extracurriculars include
being a chapter president for a medical volunteer club at my school
being on a campaign for a healthcare conference at Emory university
habitat for humanity (just a memeber)
shawdowing a chiropractor and physics therapist
athletic trainer for three years
working at an orthodontist
I know my grades aren’t the highest but I also have to work a lot to help support my single mom. I grew up without a dad. I never knew my biological dad
How can you have taken APs until your freshman year? Agree, unless you have some hook (URM, from a very small town in rural GA, etc) those scores are going to present a challenge. That said, I do know of a student with a lower ACT who was admitted, but she had other strengths in her application (spoke multiple languages, etc).
Freshman year the only Ap you’re allowed to take is AP GOV so I took that
Sophmore - I took AP world
Junior- Ap Lang and AP United States history
Senior year - I’ll have 9 college credits from the local college I take my classes at(Georgia state)
UGA will be a reach with a 25 ACT & 3.3 UW GPA. UGA’s middle 50% range for ACT is 26-31, meaning your score is lower than over 75% of admitted students. Do not let me dissuade from applying however, as you could tell a compelling story in your app.
An unsolicited word of advice - do not fall into the prestige trap and think that only “name” colleges are worth applying to. The “right college” for any student is the one that fits their needs, both academic and financial. You are the consumer here, so find the school that gets you the most value.
For example, you would be a competitive candidate at both GA Southern and U North Georgia. You show an interest in physical therapy or sports medicine/athletic trainer… both of those schools have athletic trainer programs. I would consider looking at schools like those as well as applying to UGA. As in-state publics, they are likely to cost less than Out of state schools. You should also look at private colleges, some of them offer good need-based aid. look at say, Berry College for example.
Good luck to you!
