I don't understand my decision!!

I just logged on and got the famous "HURRAH!"
However, it said:

" Welcome to the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School Class of 2016! "

Thing is, ** I DIDN'T APPLY TO WHARTON ED. **

I applied to the M&T program with Wharton as my single choice option for RD. I didn't check the box for being considered ED at Wharton too.

I don't get what happened - was I positively rejected from M&T?
If so, how come they took me for Wharton ED without applying?!

If you are rejected from your dual degree, M&T in this instance, your app is put in the pile for your second choice of school for ED. Sorry, you were rejected from M&T, but CONGRATS, you have been accepted to Wharton! If I were you I’d be pretty happy!

Thanks dfree124, and I am very happy!
But what I don’t get is that I distinctly remember having the option of either:
(a) applying to my single degree ED (and signing the agreement)
(b) not applying ED - which is what I did.

Has anyone been accepted ED to M&T? What did your letters look like??

Just double-checked on the commonapp site, and on the Penn supplement where it says this:
" Do you want to be considered as an Early Decision candidate for the single-degree option you have indicated? "

My response is a solid No.

I called up the admissions office and they said that my letter indicated a rejection from M&T. Regarding the unapplied for acceptance, I will get an answer on Monday.

Weird sh * t going on.

My son applied Huntsman, got same offer with you. I do believe he is more fit Huntsman than Wharton according to his international experiences.

M&T and Huntsman are FAR more competitive than Wharton, so it is not at all surprising to not be accepted to the dual degree program and be offered a place in the single-degree choice. If you did not check that box, they can’t hold you to it. The thing to clarify is if they will honor the acceptance until you have a chance to weigh other options in the spring…

@Aaffda4, I’m encountering the same situation, except I applied Huntsman ED and CAS RD.

I’m typing up an email to the admissions office, but finding it a little difficult to click send. Would they see this as a ‘I actually don’t really want to come’? because I actually do want to go! I’m just confused right now, and my conscience feels like if I don’t address the issue I’m cheating the system.

^ Well I think you should just accept if you’re sure …
I’m not positive I want to go to Wharton, and FinAid made pretty impossible to attend Penn anyways. So I’m probably gonna have to apply to other schools RD.

I don’t think you’d be cheating the system.

wow - what a conundrum - completely understand your situation

I also clicked no for wharton single choice (pooling for RD), so that I could chance at all other ivies (if denied from huntsman)… but here’s the irony. Being accepted from wharton would make any person happy - but you didn’t apply there for a reason! XD

Would best send a letter to adcoms! Good luck!

Hi I am just really curious because I applied to Penn Huntsman ED this year.

Did you accept the offer to go to Wharton?
