I applied to UPENN’s M&T program with Wharton as a backdrop (ED as well). I found out that I got deferred.
Does that mean that I got deferred from BOTH, or just M&T because the app said that only if I’m not considered at all for M&T will they consider me for Wharton.

The letter was way too general and I couldn’t get anything from it.

It means you got deferred for both. I think when they bring up your application during the RD process, they will first look at you for the M&T Program again, and then Wharton.

I'm not too sure. Anybody else want to comment?

Well, with the Huntsman ppl, it's deferral from HUNTSMAN...no consideration from Wharton I think. Once they reject you officially and completely, then they'll consider you for Wharton. I think, in your case, M&T deferred you...Wharton still hasn't reviewed your app yet.

On the application there was a box to check for a backup (engineering or Wharton) if you got deffered. There was another box asking if you wanted to be considered early for Wharton if you were not accepted to M&T. All early decisions are done, so assuming u checked the second box too, you are deferred from both.

haha, oh nvm, I should've just read my APP again:

So my fears have been unfounded. Wharton hasn't looked at my app yet. I got deferred from Jerome only, so they'll consider me RD jerome again. If I get denied, then Wharton will take a look at my app.
Complicated.

did you specifically say that you wanted to be considered for wharton ED if you were to be rejected from M&T? That is what my friend did. She did not get into M&T, but they accepted her into WHarton. ANother friend of mine got into Wharton, but not Huntsman, same way. Btw, did u go to the Governor's School for the sciences?

You have the same problem as me
I applied to Huntsman(backup-wharton), and they deferred me.
I was wondering which one got deferred.
I guess we'll both know when the mail comes.
If it doesn't say in the mail, i guess i'll just call.

Hey...Catch-22~~how sure are you?:
"Well, with the Huntsman ppl, it's deferral from HUNTSMAN...no consideration from Wharton I think. Once they reject you officially and completely, then they'll consider you for Wharton."
cuz' I really want to know.

Well, to tell you the truth, at this moment, I am not sure at all. I've been getting different stories and stuff. My advice: Call the admissions office and ask them directly.
