I don't understand this: I'm in honors classes and get all A's and B's, but my GPA is

.... LOWWWW! This is the system that my school uses: There are 4 levels. Level 1 is AP, level 2 is Honors (Me!!), level 3 is "average," and level 4 is below average.

For level 1:
A = 8.0
A- = 7.75
B+ = 7.50
B = 7.0
B- = 6.75
C+ = 6.25
C = 6.0
C- = 5.5
D+ = 4.5
D = 4.0
D- = 3.5
F = 0

For level 2:
A = 7.0
A- = 6.75
B+ = 6.50
B = 6.0
B- = 5.75
C+ = 5.25
C = 5.0
C- = 4.5
D+ = 3.5
D = 3.0
D- = 2.5
F = 0

For level 3:
A = 6.0
A- = 5.75
B+ = 5.50
B = 5.0
B- = 4.75
C+ = 4.25
C = 4.0
C- = 3.5
D+ = 2.5
D = 2.0
D- = 1.5
F = 0

For level 3:
A = 5.0
A- = 4.75
B+ = 4.50
B = 4.0
B- = 3.75
C+ = 3.25
C = 3.0
C- = 2.5
D+ = 1.5
D = 1.0
D- = 0.5
F = 0

Well, when I talked to my guidance counselor, he said that since this is the 8-point scale, to convert it to the regular 4-point scale, just divide your GPA by 2. THIS IS WHERE IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME! Even if you got STRAIGHT A's in HONORS level classes, the most that your GPA can be is 3.3? Straight A's, even in below average or average classes should give you a 4.0 UNWEIGHTED. And being in honors should make the weighted average even HIGHER than the 4.0, shouldn't it!?!?!!? That is NOT fair! How do colleges view this type of GPA weighting??????

Thanks for any help ASAP!

Just convert all your A's to 4.0, all your B's to 3.0, all your C's to 2.0, etc. and divide by the number of classes. That should give you your unweighted GPA. If you want to add + and -, then A-=3.7, B+= 3.3, etc.

I wouldn't add the plusses and minuses.

don't worry about it. colleges see the grades in the individual classes and may calculate a GPA of their own.

Agree, dividing by 2 doesn't add up.
Colleges get the explanation of grading with the transcript and many (probably most) competative schools re-calculate the GPA based on their own rules (often including only the major courses). Look on the college website or better yet - call/e-mail an admissions counsellor from one of the schools you're interested in for some pointers on how to fill in the GPA part of their app.

Your school complicates the GPA process. My school assigns GPA by giving Honors and AP courses a 5.

Colleges get a secondary school profile, so they'll understand your school's GPA system. I agree that you should check with one of the colleges on who they look at GPA.

The reason that you end up with such a low GPA is that most schools are on a 5- or 6-point scale, not a 4-point scale, as your counselor says.

Like was said, don't worry. Colleges will probably recalculate your GPA anyway...if they care.

Wow, your counselor is dumb. If you were in all AP classes it might be close. Just do what everyone said.

A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0

Yeah, do the standard method.

Thats one messed up GPA system. Colleges wont care and will just recalculate and translate that mess into a language they can understand , lol

very funny ^^

Your school has a really weird GPA system. Colleges will recalculate it based on their own system or whatever is normal.

That system is so messed up. If you are in level 4 the best you can do is like a C+ lol.
