I failed APUSH

I'm a current sophomore in APUSH. S1 I received a D and S2 I'm going to receive an F. I'm sure I got a 5 on the exam, I already took the SAT II and got 780, and I'm on the History Bowl team at my school that did very well at nationals.

The reason that I failed is attendance issues - there is a school in my district that has a lot of AP classes that aren't offered at my school. I am able to take a bus to go there, but I often missed the bus. Because I missed the bus, it was considered absent, so I was unable to make up anything that I missed in class, leading to my failing grade.

If I explain this to colleges, will it hurt me a lot? I also have a chance to retake it next year, where I'm sure that I could get an A. Should I do that or just cut my losses?

If its factored into your gpa, retake it or else you’re screwed
if not, the ap score is all that matters.

Deny the credit? like the above poster said, the AP exam is really what matters.

Did you miss the bus because of human error (i.e. you were just late) or for another reason (illness, problems with the bus, yada yada)?

If it’s the former, good luck explaining that. Otherwise, what everyone else said.

Explain the problem to your gc

Couldn’t you reason with the teacher?

Wouldn’t the teacher be willing to raise your grade to an A if you got a 5 on the exam?
