i failed English twice because i guess i didn’t like the professor the first time , then when i took it the second time i failed again with a D and tried my best. I have struggles in english and math . Then in math i failed math once and gonna take it again in the summer semester im just stressed and worried that what if i failed both of them and will never end up graduating community college
Are you going to the tutroing centers? Are you going to professor office hours? Are you joining in any study groups? Are you utilizing any and all campus resources in order to get through your classes?
Go meet, physically, with a campus advisor. Ask for an appointment if you need to, and keep the appointment. Ask about all resources available to help students succeed. Even comm colleges want students to succeed. And you must want to, or you wouldn’t have come here looking for help.
But a word of warning. If you don’t like your teacher, frankly that’s tough. That’s a poor reason to not do your work. You will ALWAYS have to deal with people in life that you don’t like, and they might have a position of authority over year. Failing to do the work because you don’t like someone isn’t going to get you anywhere in life.
Befroe you get too despondent, spend a few minutes thinking about what you want your future to look like. If yiu want it to be better, you need to go to college. You can do that, but you have to make the effort. I spent three years at CC and got out on academic probation before I woke up and smelled the coffee. I sepnt another three years getting my degree at at state Uni. I have my current job becasue of that degree, and I am over 50. You can do it, but no more excuses. Make your life happen the way you want it to and be proactive. Good luck.
Did you struggle in high school?
Did you take a placement test? When I started college, I did poorly on the math placement test. I had to take remedial math for no grade, no credit. I got the foundations down and went from there.
I did struggle in high school with only math @TQfromtheU
I took placement already but did really bad on them and got place at low level math, now im retaking math 510 a second time @svlab112
I’m gonna go to tutors, speak to my professor during after hours and much more so i can succeed in my future and try not to dwell on my past @Lindagaf
Email your professors at the beginning of the semester, or meet with them early to tell them that you’ve struggled with these subjects in the past. Ask them if they have any advice on doing well in the class, and ask them if you can stop by office hours every so often to check in with them. The answer will of course be yes (that’s what office hours are for), but you still need to make an out-loud commitment to them and yourself that you’ll seek help if you need it. Having someone hold you accountable will make it harder for you to fall behind in your understanding of the material.
Please do meet with an advisor. That’s someone else who can help you stay on track. There are a lot of resources, but you have to find them and use them. Good luck.
Check and see if your school has a writing center. I worked at one since undergrad and encourage my own students to go there, too. Sometimes you can get lost in your own perspective and can’t always tell when the point you’re making doesn’t make sense, when your argument could be stronger, etc.
I go to the writing center myself both for my graduate papers and for my course assignments. Someone looks my essay prompts over and tells me what questions they have, which helps me a lot.
