I feel like I got accepted and then forgotten about.

Some time around September 20th I got accepted to IU, and I received the "acceptance packet" just a few days later. I thought the acceptance packet was really lame, seeing that there was basically no information about anything in it, and that is really gave no further directions for anything besides how to apply for housing.
Well, it said that instructions on how to apply for housing would be mailed "very soon." No word yet. So, I went on the website to look, and I think i found the online housing application, but the link didn't work.

And in addition, I feel like there was a massive lack of information sent. Is there another packet that comes some time soon? When will the thing that deals with housing come? Does the housing application link not work for anyone else?

Basically.. when will I hear from them again?

You might have been accepted so early that they don’t have all the information prepared for your freshman class. That’s my best guess. If you think about it, the school year just started for the students a year older than you. I would wait a month of two. I bet you’ll receive more information. Either way though, I’d sign up for housing if you’re sure you want to go there because the first people to sign up get their top choice.

I just got back from a visit, they said the housing app isn’t ready yet but should be up soon.

Most colleges require that students say “yes” or “no” to the offered acceptances by May 1st of next year.

Since you were accepted so early, and told them “yes” so early, you need to realize that you really are an exception. I don’t think the housing application even goes up online until around November–and that is still is about 6 months before most students will decide where they will go to college next year.

The advantage for you is that ths means you will get first choice of dorms, and first choice of orientation dates for registering (meaning you should choose the earliest date, which will then give you the first choice of which classes to enroll in and the first chance to have a counseling session with advisors).

Lastly, remember that right now the admission advisors are looking at over 12,000 different applications–and about 4,000 of those students won’t be offered admission–so be glad for your quick acceptance–and understand that looking at 12,000 different applications takes a lot of time.

Good luck at IU-B.

cody,
They probably won’t be sending much out until they have a critical mass of accepted students. you got your at the very beginning of the cycle (congratulations, by the way!) and in a way, you are way ahead of their game. Right now the admissions office is still plowing through the piles and piles of applications that are flooding in to the office.

Soon you will receive housing info–send it in RIGHT AWAY because housing assignments are made in the order they are received.

After that you probably won’t hear much from the school until spring.

I’m not really sure what more you are expecting. My D got her e-mail, and it spoke to setting up an account to apply for scholarships, plus housing, etc. Then she got that packet you mention, with letters also addressing the next steps, telling her what automatic scholarships apply, and reiterating what she needs to do within the next 30 days. What else is it you’re looking for? Right now, IU will be sending acceptances, rejections to all applications. Yet they’re not going to hear back from many of them until April. They can’t really hold everyone’s hand to get them through the process. They know they’ll never hear from many of these students again except for them to say “thanks, but no thanks”.

And you have info on money, and housing. And EVERYTHING else is online (dorms, food, photos, how to tour, majors, classes, etc etc).

This student body is larger than the population of many COUNTIES. I’m truly just curious what else it is you wanted in that packet?
