I feel like such a failure

So, I got rejected from all 6 ivies I applied to... I got into schools like Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Tufts, BC, etc... I feel like a complete failure to myself and my family. I worked so hard in high and did so many activities/studying in order to get into one of those top ivy colleges, but my efforts were all in vain. Most of the kids who applied to those colleges from my school got into at least one, but not me. My cousins have all gotten into Harvard, Yale, Stanford so I make my family look so bad that their first son couldn't get into even Brown. I don't think my parents came all the way to this country for their son to only get into those schools. I had to drink a caramel Macchiato to make myself feel better... Anyone else like this?

My D would kill to have been accepted to Georgetown.

"even Brown"

no comment

Wow, kid, you should chill out. You got into great schools. Maybe not the ones you wanted to get into, but great nonetheless. Your parents (and the rest of your family) should be proud.

OK to feel sorry for your self for a day or two. Then take a deep breath and go forward. Now you can actually do what you are destined for instead of trying to be what you thought others want you to be. You have some great schools to choose from. My S would change any of his acceptances for Georgetown. Everything happens for a reason (although you may wonder what reason). Perhaps you were meant to do great things in another place other than an Ivy. Don't think that who you are can be defined by these schools. Find your own self and make your own definition.

I find it hard to trust such posts from first-time posters. These posts seem to come out right after decisions--first early, now regular. My guess is that Corsten1 is yanking chains and looking for some angry feedback. Enjoy the Macchiato.

Your got into some of the best and most competitive colleges in the country. Tens of thousands of students have been rejected by those schools. Hundreds of thousands of hard working students with great ECs don't have the stats to have considered applying to the schools that accepted and rejected you.

Success and/or failure is in the eye of the beholder. Congrats on ALL the great schools your DID get into! Obviously, you thought they were worth your time and effort to apply to them. As other posters have stated, "It's not the school that defines who you are..."

Success and/or failure is in the eye of the beholder. Congrats on ALL the great schools that you DID get into. Obviously, you thought enough of them to take the time and effort to apply. As another poster mentioned, "It's not the school that defines who you are..."

I would have killed to get into Johns Hopkins...oh well

I hope this is an April Fools' joke. If it's for real, I have no idea what to say.

I'm speechless. If this post was serious and not intended as a joke or a strange way of bragging about your acceptances, chill out. Where you go to college is not the most important part of who you are or even what you do in terms of a graduate education or a career.

From your post you seem to be a son of immigrants- think about how many other kids in your position couldn't even dream of going to college.

I don't know why everyone thinks its such a joke, i agree with Corsten1. I always thought myself smart enough and good enough for an ivy, and not being accepted to any of them shattered my perception of what i could do. I couldn't be happier with where I chose to go, but the feeling of failure is still there and will be for another few weeks maybe. It's just something to get over.

funny since im in the same exact situation. I was rejected at all 5 ivies I applied to but got into JHU, USC, etc.

But I am ECSTATIC to be going to Johns Hopkins next year.

What's with all this ivy hype? Sure the whole HYP are amazing schools, but I'd argue in a heartbeat that a school like Johns Hopkins is better than a decent chunk of the ivy league schools.

Seriously, you'll end up at a great school anyway. I'd kill to end up at any of those schools. The Ivy league is extremely overrated, and these schools, and some other state schools as well like UF and UIUC get a lesser reputation than they should.

"I always thought myself smart enough and good enough for an ivy, and not being accepted to any of them shattered my perception of what i could do"

I know that when it comes to Harvard, last year the admission dean said that 90% of applicants qualified for Harvard, meaning they had the stats necessary to get in. Probably most of the applicants at other Ivies qualify for admission.

But there aren't spaces for all, so the Ivies pick and choose so as to create a class that's as diverse as possible -- regions, races, nationalities, religions, political views, possible majors, extracurricular interests, etc. Not getting doesn't mean that something was wrong with you.

Wow. I can't believe how much you put down Brown. Brown isn't an easy school to get into no matter whether you think its at the a** end of the IVYs.

"I always thought myself smart enough and good enough for an ivy, and not being accepted to any of them shattered my perception of what i could do"

Not sure why you would think this. Even on the rejection letters it stated that your rejection is not an indication of your inability to do well at those schools but rather the limitations on space....then it goes on to talk about how you'll make it at other fine institutions. Thats enough encouragement for anybody to be resilient and get back on their feet. IMO

How popular is finance as a major at the ivy league school?

First, at what Ivy? There at 8 of them.

Secondly, popular in what sense?

Is it in terms of how many people are familiar with it or in strength of academics & how far it can take you in the corporate world?
