I Feel Like We Hardly Know Each Other

PEACE & CONFLICT STUDIES. !!!!!!! I haven't seen anyone else interested in that one but me; holla!

The world's a small place after all:) if we're lucky (which is a big IF in my case) there will be at leat 2 in P&C classes lol

1. Dream career, if money were irrelevant? Er, I honestly have no idea! Speech writer, maybe? OR if the whole talent thing is ignored, a photographer for National Geographic. :]
2. Intended major/academic interests? *Undecided, but with an interest in the humanities and social sciences.
**3. Favorite book/author(s)/movies? **Oh dear; my favorite book changes on a weekly basis, but at the moment, my favorite book is a memoir, *Fun Home: A Tragicomic
, by Alison Bechdel. It's actually a graphic novel but it is literally one of the best books I've ever read. EVER. Actually, you should go read it now. :] I don't watch many movies, but I lovelovelove The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Juno.
**4. Nerdiness on a scale of 1-10?
Ahaha. Probably like 8.5, 9. I'm totally proud of my geekiness, though!
5. Guilty pleasure? Buffy the Vampire Slayer and webcomics [Questionable Content, xkcd, etc.]
6. Favorite music genre? Pretty eclectic...generally alt/indie stuff, but I'm up for whatever.
7. Greatest accomplishment? Hm. Probably writing an essay for a residential summer program about being gay and closeted which eventually led me to outing myself to a roomful of people.
8. Greatest failure? Honesty, I'd say mine are more like character traits, like my crazy procrastination skillz and inability to be normal. :]
9. Favorite nonacademic past time? ...does reading count as academic? :] If it does, I'll have to go with hiking/backpacking/outdoorsy stuff.
10. How high is Wellesley ranked on your list? Be honest. Um, probably about the top of the middle, if that makes any sense. Which makes me embarrassed, as it seems to be the top of everybody else's, haha.

Iúileb, have you also applied to Barnard?

I would really, really love to work for National Geographic. That's my real first choice job, but not for photography, I'd like to write. (It's good to aim high, right? :) )

WindSongLibra, nope...I decided I had more than enough women's colleges on my list. Not that there're that many (3), but 4th seemed excessive. Idk, maybe I should have (I guess they have a HR program since it's a Columbia affiliate), but I didn't so... did you?

Yes, I did. Especially because of its human rights program :) I studied at an all-girls school for 14 years, and still I found most of the Seven Sisters colleges very appealing. Maybe I'll find it easier, who knows!

Well my name is Sonja from AZ!
Dream Career?
Politician or Journalist. I would really love to be a journalist for National Geographic! I don't fancy sitting behind a desk type jobs. I really love to travel and be out there among people.I would also LOVE to write too!

Intended Major? International Relations/Poli Sci with a focus on Middle Eastern Affairs and Womens Right in the region

Favorite Book/Author?
Oh this is hard! I love to read so much. Well, i have to say my favorite authors are JK Rowling,Charles Dickens and Ayn Rand. Jk holds a special place in my heart because Harry Potter was the first book i ever read. I didn't learn to read till i was 11 and HP was the book that really put a spark on my love for reading. Took me 3 months to finish the first book lol. By the time the 5th book came out two years later, i could read it in a day!

Nerd scale lol? I don't know. But i do have a strong predilection for History and Discovery lol. No, in all honesty, i am about a 7-8.5 maybe?

Guilty Pleasure ? Twilight. They are horribly written and very sexist, but i love Edward Cullen
Greatest Achievement? Learning to read at such a late stage in life
Greatest Failure? Math
Nonacademic pastimes? Sports, Traveling and Music

Where is Wellesley on my list? Very high! I would love to go there.

Yay breaks that cause me to spend my time on the computer.

Hey everyone,

Dream career, if money were irrelevant?
Something with writing...travel writing? novelist? Maybe even teaching writing?

Intended major/academic interests?
Probably English, but that could also turn into history/women's studies/sociology. Anything, really, I like almost any subject decently well except for maybe science.

Favorite book/author(s)/movies?
Jane Austen, Jodi Picoult, Louisa Alcott (she makes me smile), L.M. Montgomery, Barbara Kingsolver, Zora Neale Hurston, Margaret Atwood, Betty Smith; movies - oh, goodness, I don't know if I could pick. I like old Katherine Hepburn movies like the Philadelphia Story, and I could watch the Princess Bride quite a bit, too. Almost anything really, no horror though.

Nerdiness on a scale of 1-10?
Hahaha, probably a 7 or an 8. Nerds are awesome.

Guilty pleasure?
Really, really, really sappy chick flicks. Chocolate. Ahaha, creepin' on facebook.

Favorite music genre?
I love music. No screamo, no metal. It has to have some kind of melody, but beyond that I'm all set: rock, alternative, folk, classical, country, jazz, pop, some rap, anything.

Greatest accomplishment?
Managing Editor of school newspaper Junior year, high honors all four years in high school (my GPA, basically).

Greatest failure?
Being too hard on myself, not being able to relax, stressing out over little stupid details. And I was also really really shy for a while (sometimes still am).

Favorite nonacademic past time?
I'm a violinist, and I love love love singing soprano. I also absolutely adore writing stuff (journal, stories, essays, etc.). And I love being outside--hiking, sailing.

How high is Wellesley ranked on your list? Be honest.
Well. It has been in a three-way tie for first with Midd and Bowdoin for the longest time, but now that I've gotten a likely letter it's starting to look a lot more friendly than either of the other two. I have a feeling it'll come down to financial aid and stuff, because I just got a STRIDE from Smith and MHC just gave me a 21st Century Scholarship thing. But I'd go to Wellesley over either of those if the money works out okay.

I really like this forum topic. This was a good idea. And once we all decide where we're going, we should make a topic, so those of us who are going to Wellesley can get to know each other even better :-)

I totally agree.

Seconded. This is fun! :)

LaMarisposaAzul, I think we're applying to a lot of the same schools, because I seem to see your name on every forum that I look in!

Haha, I was just thinking that! ...then again, I did apply to 11 schools, so it's probably not surprising that lots of people have overlap with me :) Also noticed that you're from Massachusetts, too! Cool.

OK, so I'm dorky and College Confidential obsessed...can we continue the questions game, everyone?

I want to know: If you could meet any historical person, who would it be? For me, it would have to be either Elizabeth I, Eleanor of Aquitaine, or Eleanor Roosevelt... :)

I would probably like to meet the members of the Romanov dynasty. Maybe Rasputin, too. Haha. I'm highly intrigued by them.

i agree, windsonglibra. so intriguing!
hmm, i would probably want to meet churchill.

I third the Romanovs. Also Queen Victoria, just to see what it'd be like to be in her presence.

The Tudor era is also really interesting to me. I'd love to see what court life was like then.

I would love to meet Teddy Roosevelt, he just seemed like he was a fun guy to be around.

Wow. Everybody's so fascinated by the Romanovs. But I fourth that. Although I'd love to meen only Nikolay, maybe his children, but not his wife. Also Solzhenitsin, Sakharov and Eltsin from my country. Probably Michael Collins and DeValera. Also Steinbeck, Jackie Kennedy O and Madeleine Albright...I could go on:)
