My parents are trying to get me to apply to Ivies so we can get financial aid, but I've been skeptical of them. However, now that I am considered a URM, I think I may well consider applying for as many as possible.

I am Algerian, and yesterday commenters here said i would count as white. For you Asians out there, if you are not the most common brand of asian, there is hope! Though I'm guessing the vast majority of Asian applicants are Han Chinese or Korean.

Hmmm, I get what you mean, but this is from the recruitment peeps. Maybe it holds some weight. Either way, I just wanted to get this cleared up.

Of course you’re a minority. URM is an entirely different boat.

Being a minority is probably of some slight advantage just because it helps schools build some twisted vision of “diversity” that is defined by ethnicity.

That being said, you’re not an under represented minority.

This is just the “Undergraduate Minority Recruitment Program,” so it doesn’t imply under-represented, as I have also gotten it and I am Asian. It’s not fake; look on the Harvard website and you’ll see the link to it.
