If you go on google maps and you type in bates college and then drag the little man on college st you can have a view as if you are walking on the street. It’s kinda cool for us people that haven’t visited…but check it out!

I did that too. But what surprised me was there aren't many trees on campus from what I saw compared to a description I read somewhere that the campus is heavily forested... :S

We've been to Bates twice, initially for tour and info and then again for interview. I just checked out google maps and, though cool, it did not remind me of the campus at all. I don't know if that is good or bad news for you.

I wonder when the pictures were taken? Maybe that has to do with it? but if I get accepted, I'm definitely going to find someway to get there! (i'm from southern cali)

OK, I went back into google maps. The view that I picture in my head when I think of Bates is the following. Do google maps, click B - admissions. Then move down to the corner of Woods street and then turn about 2 clicks to the right and you will see up what I would assume is the main quad. I hill with old tall trees. When you click on H, you are looking down what has become Alumni walk . Alumni walk was completed before we visited Bates a year ago (so the photos must be before that point - probably summer/fall '07). The only other view that I really recognize is E and click 2 to the left. Again you will be looking up into the campus. The other choices really seem to be more the perimeter of the campus.

Our visits were twice, one in Feb '08 (a very snowy day) and July '08 ( a rainy summer day).

I've been google earth-ing all my colleges, and Bates didn't really seem as much appealing as others! (Just an opinion!)
