Hi,
I recently received notice of my grades for this past 6-week semester. I got an A in ENC 2135 but a B+ CGS 2060. I am so scared right now. My FSU GPA is now a 3.6. It is so disappointing that I am starting college with this. I am taking 16 hours in the fall so I MUST get all A’s this upcoming semester. I once wanted to go to law school but after doing some research, I found out it wasn’t worth it. My majors at FSU are Criminology and Middle Eastern Studies with concentrations on religion, history, and Arabic. I plan to pursue International Affairs at my dream school (NYU). How tarnished is that possibility now?
You’ll be fine. Period.
3.6 is a solid college GPA.
You’ll be fine. College grades can be very subjective, and you will not always get an A even if you deserve one. Use it as a learning experience. Do you know why you got the B+? If not, email or visit the teacher and ask for feedback. If you know why, apply those lessons to this fall.
Breathe. Expecting perfection in yourself is a sure path to a miserable unhealthy existence. Additionally, the way you judge yourself should not be solely by grades. Do you best, learn from mistakes, and keep moving forward in a positive manner.
People are not perfect. You will be fine with a B.
Do your best from now on. Keep ahead in your homework. You will probably get another B somewhere along the line, if not a C. You will do fine anyway.
Keep an open mind regarding where to attend for graduate school, if you end up applying to graduate school. I was turned down from my dream school when I applied to graduate school, and I LOVED where I went instead and did well there. There are a lot of very good universities.
I had a pattern at FSU. I’d get A’s and B’s one semester and be disappointed. Then I’d get motivated and get straight A’s the next semester. Then I slacked off again and started the cycle over. I ended with a 3.7.
You have plenty of time to recover if you want a better GPA. Even if you finished with a 3.6 GPA, you can get into NYU.
When I applied to grad schools, it seemed like the minimum GPA for every master’s programs was either 3.0 or 3.5.
