I got a d's this semester in my engineering major class.

I want to go to graduate school, but I got a d’s this semester in my engineering major class. Should I move on and do better in the future or retake the class?

Ouch.
Employers look at your GPA. Grad schools look at your GPA.
I would retake the class.

If you got a D, it seems likely you don’t really understand the material. You need to either retake the class or reconsider engineering as a major.

My D’s school requires students to re-take courses in their major if they get below a C-. I would retake so you are sure you understand the material since so many classes build on themselves.

You’re going to have to be a lot more specific about your situation to have any hope of getting a good answer here.

Yes, meet with your adviser to make sure you aren’t REQUIRED to retake the courses.

It really isn’t the end of the world to have to retake a class. My nephew got a D in Calc I. He retook it, stayed on track by taking calc 2 in the summer, then picked up with calc 3 in his sophomore year. He graduated yesterday with a masters in engineering.

I would say if you dont need to retake it to graduate. Think about it before jumping the gun. Think about the classes you will take with it, and how much work it will be, if you receiving a d eas because you didnt understand it or you did, it’s just you didnt put the time in needed because of other obligations. I’ve had classes I recieved a C in and though I could do better, in reality I put the class off the second time around because I had classes of higher priority.

If it is just one D, you can still get into Grad school, just think about why you got the D and be able to explain that to an employer or grad school admissions office if they ask about it.
