I got a likely call...

I have a Chemistry prelab to complete, 1984 to read, and a skeletal system test to study for, yet I can’t do any of them.
I got a likely call from a Yale admissions officer saying that I can consider myself admitted and can expect acceptance in late March…Am I really admitted? Or is this just a tentative most likely? I’m caught in the middle between wanting to tell everyone and worrying I might be celebrating too early.

are you a recruited athlete? i don’t think i’ve heard of students getting likely letters or calls this early. it’s only february seventh. regardless, if you truly did receive the call, and that’s what the person said, i believe you’re admitted. keep your grades up! let this motivate you even more. congratulations!

Don’t tell anyone. You don’t want to have to explain that one if things don’t work out.

I got a call last Friday and was told I’m getting my likely letter in the mail this week! I’ve also been emailed saying that I am garunteed to be offered acceptance in March and was given access to all the admitted students resources. If the person who called you has said something along these lines it’s safe to say that you can celebrate!

@xxluvforeverxx To the OP, if they said the words ‘consider yourself accepted’ and are a verified admissions officer, then you can trust them. According to the Ivy Agreement all Ivy League schools abide by, likely notifications are binding unless you mess up in grades, or get arrested or suspended or something. Just curious, when did you get this call, and did the officer say why you got it?
Thanks!

I got this call after school yesterday. At first I thought Yale was calling me for an extra interview, but the admissions officer said he and the committee were impressed with my application and were sending it directly to the dean. He said that I can expect an official acceptance letter in March, but wanted me to know beforehand so I can better know the Yale experience and choose Yale. I already have access to the accepted student portal and FB group. Still feels a bit surreal.

I would say nothing, just in case. I personally know of an athlete who was told the same thing at another Ivy League college. He was DENIED on Ivy Day. He had withdrawn his apps from other schools even. He ended up scrambling like crazy with some of the colleges he originally applied to, and now attends one of his other choices.

I would tell your parents and that’s it. Everyone should keep this news quiet until the formal acceptance letter comes. In the meantime keep your grades up and stay out of trouble. And Congratulations!!!

Congratulations! @vantasonic Are you a STEM student??

@wrenwu Thank you! And no, I’m actually an arts student (fine arts), so I was very surprised.

I love that! good luck with everything!!

I also got the call!! Big congrats!!

will there be any more calls do you think or they re done doing likeleis?

For those who got likelies, were you contacted for an interview beforehand?

@grundeis There probably will be more calls for likelies since its still pretty early in the game.
@MaybeHarvard2022 Yes, I had my interview in early January, but Ive heard of some people getting LLs prior to the interview.

I believe you can rely on the “likely” call. You will get a likely letter soon (voice of experience). Yale does this with applicants they really want. Congratulations!

Congrats!! Could you mention your stats, major and race pleeeasse??

Good to verify via another channel if you did not catch the callers name and cannot verify them as a university staffer. Your own call as to whether you should share at your high school, depends on your the culture and how many others are still waiting to hear. I shared and later regretted it, because the attention (both positive and negative) affected my focus. My high school’s faculty was very leaky and could have been depended on to spill the beans.

How on earth would she receive access to the accepted students’ portal and Facebook group if it wasn’t the real deal? Let the celebrations begin! Congratulations to those who have received these calls.

I still can’t believe I was actually accepted. I’m only going to share it with a few close friends and teachers for now until I know everything for sure.
