Yale Call?

Hi,

So today Yale called my home phone and my cell phone, but I wasn't available and had left my cell at home.

An admissions guy left a message on both phones telling me to call him back, so we can "discuss my application status."

.....what exactly is that supposed to mean? My dad seems to think it's good news, but it's still JANUARY, for heaven's sake, so I told him not to get his hopes up.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is there something wrong with my app? Thanks!

Perhaps something is missing or needs clarification. Don’t worry. Just call and find out what they need. I agree with you however: this isn’t anything to boost ones’ hopes. Now if it were late March… then that might be a good sign.

Someone from admissions called my son today and told him that he is a “likely” admit for 2015. They asked him to come for Yale Engineering and Science Weekend February 19-21, and they are paying for the trip. They gave him a url to a website devoted to the YES weekend . They are sending him a 2015 tea shirt.

Maybe they called you for the same thing.
Call them back and good luck.

that’s so cool!!

@olutunde

You were right!!!
I called him back and he said I was a likely (and mentioned that special Engineering weekend, which btw sounds SO awesome!).

It was completely unexpected–I mean, three years ago, my brother applied to yale and also got a likely call…but he’s a lot smarter than me, and his call was in February and not January, so I didn’t even imagine that mine could possibly be a likely call.

Anyways congrats to your son! I bet he’s really excited–is he going to the weekend thing as well?

So jealous.

Congrats though, but I haven’t stopped thinking about how much I want to attend Yale since probably last summer… haha

CONGRATS GUYS! Going to Bull Dog Days as well?

That is awesome for both of you.

I don’t mean to pry but I kind of want to know. Do either of you have major hooks?

So now they’re doing likely calls? First time I’ve heard of this, but congrats!

Wow, congrats. This is the pre-Likely Letter call that we heard about in years past. You’ll be receiving a Likely Letter soon. Congrats again to you dte and olutunde, your son.

My son will be at the YES weekend. He already has admissions to MIT and Caltech, so he has a very difficult decision ahead of him.

Congratulations to dte and olutunde’s son! Awesome news.

This yes weekend thing is pretty new. Sounds interesting . . . but the comments are pretty negative . . .

^Wow! I just read some of the comments posted in reply to the article. Harsh!

As someone who worked a bit for the YES-W group in admissions, I highly recommend that you attend. You’ll get a lot of cool stuff, at the very least.

congrats! you’re extremely lucky to receive such call.

CONGRATULATIONS! Can’t wait to see you on campus in a few weeks :)

Thanks everyone for all the kind words! I was honestly about to freak out last night because I thought that there was something wrong with my app…luckily it turned out to be good news!

I’ll definitely attend the YES program–it sounds interesting! :)

Interesting. Since the YES program is in February and is specifically for prospective freshmen, and since presumably they need to give people at least a week notice to make plans, etc., presumably it means that the science students they really want (and whose files they have already reviewed) should be hearing in the next few weeks…

Or have already heard, Aniger. I’m not saying there aren’t still some calls to be made, but the majority of people probably have already been contacted, if some received mail and phone calls almost a week ago.
