I got a my first D. I need to know what to do.

So as of right now I’m trying to fix this but just in case I wanted to post here. First off I’m and all A’s high honors student who has taken the hardest classes possible. Last semester I took Mandarin Chinese online and I just found out my grade and I have a D. Like I said earlier this should be fixed but just in case it can’t be what should I do? I’m freaking out because I want to go to a bigger college like UNC Chapel Hill and I don’t know how it will affect me. Should I retake the class because I could easily get an A. How much will one D affect my application? Will admissions see it as a one time mess up. Thanks to anyone who responds.

By the way sorry for the terrible grammar mistakes, I wrote that on my phone as quick as I could.

how is the online program structured so that you “found out” that you had a D. Are there tests online?

So pretty much I was having a hard time during this semester with personal problems so I fell behind in the class. I got the deadline extended for assignments and got them all in. Before I got them in I had a 63 and after I turned them in I still had a 63. I never got my report card over the summer and I just went to the school to get my parking pass so I asked my counselor for my grades. Not what I was expecting… The class itself is fully online assignments and everything through a program called blackboard. Anyways how badly will this affect me if I can’t get it fixed?

A D will definitely drop your GPA which is obviously something you want to avoid. Talk to your counselor and make sure you do everything you can to change the grade. If all else fails, you will need to show impressive first semester grades to compensate for the lower GPA of your junior year. If there is a place to explain what happened to UNC, I suggest you do so.

Ok thank you. I calculated my GPA and it went from a 3.95 unweighted to a 3.87 unweighted and I think I can get it up to a 3.9 if I get all A’s next semester. My weighted was something like 4.5 so I guess it would only drop to a 4.4 at most.
